I am trying to fill out the 2019-2020 FAFS and am wondering if I need to report my younger sister’s social security survivors benefits. She began receiving them in 2017, meaning that they would effect the income that year (which the income is already low due to my father not working much that year). I tried to find the 1099 form for them by contacting the agency who filed my father’s 2017 tax’s and she stated that they are untaxable. Everything that I have read states that if the Social Security benefits are not taxable, do not report them on the FAFSA.
I am just wanting to verify with someone who has been in the same position or a financial aid advisor that this is correct.
