Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me figure out what I should do if I haven't lived in my state for 5 years?
I understand that it asks for the state of legal residence but I haven't lived in any state for more than 2 years and I'm not sure what to put.

For fafsa you put where you live at the time of filing it, unless you are away for boarding school or for some other reason. That question is separate from the one about how long you’ve lived there. Just answer no to that one.

Where does your family reside NOW? That is your state of legal residence.

To add to what Thumper said, that may NOT mean you get in-state status for college. You’ll need to check out the residency rules at each school.
