FAFSA - Student Income

Would it be suspicious if I put WILL NOT FILE for Tax Returns, but put down Income earned from Wages - $3500?
I read that I don't have to file for tax return if I make less than $5950, which I do.

If you can be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return you don’t have to file unless your income exceeds $6100 for 2013. So, no it wouldn’t look suspicious at all. However, were taxes withheld from that job? If so you would want to file to get those withheld taxes back as a refund.

^ Totally agree. My D just did that to get her withholding back.

I was paid $8 flat, so I’m assuming taxes were withheld, but I have no intentions of getting is back as a refund.

I did extra hours last year, so would if I put down $4000 would that be ok?
I just want to be honest with FAFSA, not get in trouble. I don’t want to them to think I purposely made up an amount less than 5950 when I didn’t.

*Also, should I fix my error now, or update it all at once when my parents submit their tax forms

Put down what you actually earned, don’t guess. If you haven’t already received a W-2 you should soon. Otherwise look at your last pay stub. Can’t understand why someone wouldn’t try to get a refund if they had money coming back.

Change it now, or later when I do taxes?

Depends on how close the amount was the first time and when you’re going to do taxes. If you were close and are going to file taxes the first half of February it’s probably ok to wait.

The first amount was $0… lol
