Fail Spanish or skip a semester and take something else?

I was planning on taking Spanish every semester, but now the class I would be in, 225, conflicts with French. There's only one section and I can't do independent study. What I might be able to do with some persuading is sign up for SPAN 280, though since now I'm in 215 my prof thinks that 280 would be too difficult because of the lack of literary analysis I have. Or, should I skip out on Spanish next semester and take something else?

Of course, I'm worried about getting good grades.

280 is a lit class and I wasn't planning on taking a Spanish lit class anyway....but if I want to keep in practice....

what should I do? I want to major in anthropology and perhaps minor in philosophy. If you ask why I'm in 2 languages, well, I like them too.

If you want to major in anthropology, two languages isn’t at all strange. Most graduate programs in anthro require you to have proficiency in two foreign languages, and knowing two will make you marketable anyway.

Perhaps you can discuss this with the professor of 280? Ask to see a copy of their syllabus, or perhaps you can make an appointment with them and talk about the proficiency they require and what they would recommend you do.

I talked to my current Spanish prof today and it doesn’t sound like he’d let me into 280 (he’s not teaching it though.) I just emailed the prof for 280 so I’ll see what she says. I came up with the idea of self-studying French and taking Spanish 225, so we’ll see. I talked to some older students and they said that it’d be better to take a semester off of Spanish because it’s been in my brain longer and I’d be able to get back into it better.
