I failed the mile. :( I got an 8:41. Passing is 7:30. Any of you guys have advice on how to improve? Possibly a treadmill plan?

Just run more and steadily build up. Start by running a few miles at a 12-15 minute pace and gradually decrease the splits for each mile.

Could you clarify what you mean by “splits”?

Running under 9 is a start! This time try running under 8 minutes and 30 seconds, and (depending on how long you have) do that for a few days. Then under 8 minutes. Always push yourself, but just barely.

Good luck!

A split is a half mile time.

You want to keep going on the third lap as it is the hardest.

Lose weight if you weight too much and do more aerobic activities.

Thanks for the help guys!! And yeah I am a little overweight and since I started going to the gym, I also increased 20 lbs in muscle mass. Thanks! and could you explain the whole splits thing again, I’m not really understanding it.

Ok. Say you want to run 1 mile in 7:30

A split would be for example, 3:30 (for half mile) and 4:00 (for second half mile), which adds up to 7:30

It helps as a guide to know how fast you are going.

I don’t think the teacher would give you splits so if you bring a timing watch it would be helpful.

Pase yourself. Don’t use all your energy on the first lap or two. You need to save it up for the last lap or two when you’re getting tired.

Ok thanks porkperson!

Thanks for all the advice guys!! I will definitely work on passing. No need to kill my rank because my worst grade was in gym ahaha

You have to get a 7:30 to pass PE? What the heck?

^I feel like the OP must be male. And it’s the mile, not the entirety of PE.

Maybe that’s solely the regulation set forth for his class. The guys needed to receive a time under 6:30 at my old school to receive full credit.

Thats not fair at all, I am a male in good condition, but due to medical issues it would be impossible for me to run a mile in 6:30.

^ Special circumstances would probably exempt you.

i have quite severe scoliosis, have never been athletic in the least, and did not play sports when I got a 6:30

just practice i guess

To get an “A” for the mile in my school guys need to run sub 6:00 and girls need to run sub 7:00. To pass you need under 15:00.

sub 6 is really hard for a non-runner
sub 7 is easy though, i know its for girls but more non-runner girls can run sub 7 than guys can run sub 6

over 15 is like impossible. you can walk that fast, seriously.

I would say over 10:00 is impossible

Yeah, I never liked that way of grading. I have had asthma all of my life and I always end up out of breath when I’m finishing my 2nd lap; by the end of the mile I’m dying and can barely breathe. I usually get around 9 min?

If PE included practicing a mile run every time, sub 6:30 for guys wouldn’t be that bad… But otherwise, that’s pretty rough. I guess good motivation to get in shape?
