Failed High School health class, now what?

Hey guys I have a friend who will be a senior next year but unfortunately he was caught cheating on his Health final and consequently failed the class with a grade of 55. His overall GPA is still quite excellent (about a 94).

My question is, how much would that failing grade affect his chances? I would think it would be a lot but I just wish that weren't the case. Your inputs are much appreciated.

Thank you.

he deserves to be screwed, which he is.

In most states, you cannot graduate without passing health…your friend will probably have to retake; stinks if it’s included in GPA; doesn’t really matter if it’s not…

I believe he is going to attend summer school to make up for the class but the grade will most likely remain.

why the hell did he cheat on a health exam?

IBfootballer, can you please stop? I’m not here to listen to whatever criticism you may have about my friend. If you have no input regarding how it will affect his chances then please stop posting in this thread.

if this remains on his permanent record (GPA and record of cheating) he might as well fold his cards.

fine. i;ll be straightforward.

your friend practised academic dishonesty.

he did so on an exam as easy as health.

he got caught.

this will be noted on his HS record, as will his failure of the class.

Penn will not look favourably on this and he will likely get rejected.

I don’t know about your school, but a 94/100 in my school isn’t that great anyway. What’s his rank?

Yeah, Penn takes academic dishonesty very, very seriously. Chances are shot.

your “friend”…riiiiiiiight…

Thank you for the input.
I’m not sure if the actual act of cheating will be put on his record and a 94/100 is about top 5% in his school.

mazatl: I already graduated from high school. thanks.

even if the act of cheating is not on his permanent record, if a failing grade is on his record, i’d say there is no chance of him getting in, especially since he can’t justify it in a supplement

not to mention the rec from his guidance counselor

from someone who cheated on an exam - failed the exam and got caught in my school’s business class and then got suspended for three days. It is a really big deal. Yet the key is to be as open about it as possible and focus on how you learned from it. I was an average applicant that somehow got into the Jerome Fisher program – I think because of the maturity I held in dealing with my suspension. My guidance counselor was so happy to see that I was being mature and not trying to hide my suspension that he wrote me probably the most incredible rec ever written for anyone haha.
