Glad to hear you are still trying to see if you can get in.
Why not go see the dept chair at your CC and see if he would agree to write a letter describing the course as one teaching C++? Course content changes over time, maybe the description in the catalog hasn’t kept up and they’ve been meaning to change it.
I was accepted to UCSD as undeclared after a lot of advocating on part but I’m not positive if that’s the right move for me. I’m trying to decide whether to attend UCSD as undeclared (and switching into ECE if I’m able) or attend a CC and apply to more schools again.
I’ve been looking at assist.org for classes offered at UCSD and if they articulate with other campuses in CA and it doesn’t appear there are any. My contingency plan would be to transfer from UCSD should I fail to switch into ECE, but it doesn’t look like I could take classes there that would benefit me at other campuses. Assist.org shows no articulation agreements between UCSD and other CA schools. Am I reading this wrong? I feel like people transfer from UCSD to other schools all the time.
I’m just planning for the worst, should I not be accepted into the ECE program at UCSD.
Well I’m looking at two options: a) attend CC and apply to UCs/CSUs again or b) go to UCSD as undeclared and try my hand at switching to ECE (which is impacted)
The only reason I’d go from UCSD to another UC is if I simply can’t get put into ECE at UCSD. Basically a backup plan. But if Assist.org is only for CC to UC, that makes sense.
@bectell530, I’m assuming you’re a freshman? They do transfer all the time. Go to assist and pick any CCC and the UCs you are interested in. That will tell you what the major prerequisites are for the major at that UC. You need to try and fulfill them via UCSD. It usually isn’t that hard. They are lower division courses and just look at matching title and description.
Then you need to fulfill the Gen Ed req for the UCs and after that you get a letter of reciprocity from UCSD that asserts you completed the GE courses. Go talk with an advisor at UCSD to get the ball rolling. Remember the major requirements to be fulfilled need to be the ones at the UC you are hoping to transfer to. FYI, UCLA puts equal weight on UC-UC transfers and CCC-UC transfers.
If you are a transfer, your only option for transfer would be to withdraw, wait out the year and reapply next year.
I am a transfer student. I’m trying to avoid waiting out the year. I’m simply interested in getting my degree and starting graduate school and a career as quickly as possible.
Yeah, I thought you were as I’ve seen your posts before. I doubt seriously they will let you transfer after you got in as a junior, if you take classes at SD. If you want to start graduate school just stay at SD. It’s got a great rep. Any kind of transfer (if even doable) will slow the trajectory.
I’ll have no qualms staying at UCSD IF I can get into ECE. When I plan stuff I’m usually thinking waaaaay ahead and I’m just planning an alternative if I can’t go from undeclared to an impacted major. My two options are UCSD (undeclared) or CCC (finishing any recommended classes useful to transferring to UCs).
I am Junior status but I haven’t taken any upper division courses. When I originally posted this I think you commented on it. That’s probably why it rings a bell. Haha
So even better news. It’s not official yet but I called the undergraduate admissions office for UCLA’s college of engineering and they are accepting me. I’m admitted directly into the electrical engineering major so that alleviates a lot of stress on my part. Thank you guys for all your help.
The big takeaway I am getting from this is admissions sure seems to make a lot of mistakes. I’ve been reading that a lot. It just goes to show, you need to be proactive. Congrats!
