Failing a class now but taking it in the summer

Hello.

Currently I am taking a class right now in the Spring of 2013 here at UC Berkeley. I did horrible on my first midterm and don't know much about the class at all. It was way too late for me to drop the class by the time I realized I might actually fail the class. So I ended up signing for summer school for the exact same class. Now, I have slight hope that I might actually pass the class with maybe a C-.

The issue is with my DARs. When I checked my recent audit report, usually classes that you are currently taking are added to the units. However, for this class in the summer it is --!! like that symbol. And for the Spring semester, instead of saying something like 4.0 -- IP, it is 0.0 -->D.

Now I am betting that the class is represented as dropped because I signed up for the same class during the summer. But my question is if I miraculously do pass my class and drop the class in the summer, will my grade count?

Hopefully someone has been in the same situation as me and can answer. Also, how does specifically failing a class with a D or an F and then retaking it to get a better grade work?
