so i'm currently a senior in high school, finished calc bc last year and got a 5 on the exam and i'm currently taking a 5 AP class coarse load (statistics, english 12, spanish 5, chemistry, and physics mechanics) as well as an extra differential equations math class every monday and wednesday 7:30 - 9:00 at a local community class. on the first two exams i got 65% and the exams comprise pretty much 80% of the entire class' grades... if i end up getting a D or C in the class overall, would this affect my chances at admissions to top schools?

You wouldn’t necessarily have to submit the transcript, especially since you’re also in statistics. If you’re worried about it, don’t submit it.

Yes, you must SUBMIT ALL TRANSCRIPTS FROM ALL COLLEGE/HIGH SCHOOLS WHERE YOU HAVE TAKEN CLASSES.

Therefore, this would look bad.

More importantly, however, why are you doing so bad in class? One bad grade in one class will not mess with your life but is this what you are going to be like in REAL college?

Can you drop the class?

Drop the class, or withdraw from the class, or see if the instructor will change your status to audit or pass/fail.

The lesson I think for high school students trying to take advanced college math courses, and especially differential equations is that high school calculus is not adequate preparation. What is also needed are science/engineering courses that “require” the use of differential equations. Colleges don’t expect students to take such courses in high school, and it is extremely unlikely that they will let anyone place out of such courses in college.

In the end if the CC won’t let you drop the course, and is unwilling to give you an incomplete rather than a fail, and this is the only course you’ve taken at the CC, have your GC explain it away.

well i don’t have to send the transcript from it since i’m not planning to receive credit for it in college. the material is not hard, it’s just that i haven’t had the time to prepare. i have a full workload from ap classes at school and also run a tutoring organization and play in a tennis league on the weekends so the class is a bit extra. i know the material, i’ve just made stupid mistakes on the tests that the teacher takes off a lot of points for. i’m definitely not planning to drop it, because it’s not too hard or anything; i probably won’t send the transcript. but i mean there’s still a chance for me to get a C or B as the final exam grade can replace the lowest unit exam grade.

Some schools require you to send ALL transcripts regardless of whether you are expecting to get transfer credit for the courses or not. You’d better check on that.

Drop the class if you can.

but like, i really don’t have any intentions on dropping the class… the math that we’re learning is really exciting to me and i know that careless mistakes are the reason for my poor scores so far… i honestly don’t think i have to send the transcript, i wasn’t even on the sign-in list for the class lol

Then you really either need to bring the grade up, or drop the class and take it again in college.
