I need some ccer help. I can't concentrate or focus enough to do homework anymore-- Ii get distracted read, surf the internet or post on CC. My grades are tanking. As of now, I have 3 Bs,and one more on the way/ a 64 in one class (its pass/fail) and i still can't motivae myself to wake up, get out of bed and work. i seem to be tired and i forget to eat dinner sometimes. anyway, its beside the point. How do I force mysef to go through study for SATs, four subject tests, 3 ap exams, finals, keep my grades up and still be moderately sucess ful in my ecs while i have no weekens because of tournaments or driving to churches in other states? I'm stressed, tired and overwelmed, and hungry....

Well, from what you’ve posted, it sounds like you are completely burned out. Maybe try something relaxing?

Meditation helps…

There’s the reason. ;)

Are you a senior? No, you’re taking SATs, you must be a junior… Why are you studying for 4 SAT II’s at the same time? Study for the first test date first, and the second test date second. Just list what you have to do in order of the “due” date (or, in the case of testing, the test date) and do it in that order. Except for the AP’s…depending on the subject you may want to start studying now; just take about an hour a day, and focus on one subject per day. Do all your homework off the computer, preferably in the sight of your parents, so that you can’t go on the internet. Hope that helps…

Also, get some sleep.

all my satIIs are on the same day… :(

 FOUR of them?? I thought you could only do three in a day?? Check with collegeboard. That makes no sense.

Probably not good advice, take this with a grain of salt, but when I’m that stressed I just sit myself down and do work for hours. Give yourself a reward when you do your work like going to hang out with friends or whatever. Make sure you’re really organized; you’ll be amazed at how much this will help you. And one more thing. Try to find people that are in the same, or at least close, boat. It’s really nice to study with people because there will be days when they wanna go to the library and you really don’t want to, but since they’re pushing you it’ll help. Good luck

okay, maybe i’ll drop the math. its a little too much anyway.

okay. it sounds like you need an intervention. kind of ironic that you’re asking for help on the cc forum but that’s neither here nor there…

i feel really bad that i’m playing into your worries, but i’m one of those people who, when I have a crapload of crap to do, i get it all done. so here’s what i do… maybe a strategy or two will work for you.

what i do when i’m really stressed out is i make a huge to-do list. it sounds kind of pathetic to try and schedule your entire life out, but it gets crap done. be realistic about how long it will take you to do something, and factor in other stuff you like (for me this includes working out, playing online boggle, reading magazines, living, etc.) if you don’t have a planner, i suggest you invest in one. it really helps to see everything all out on the table.

turn long term goals/tasks into things that can be worked on a few days a week (basically break down large tasks into smaller, manageable tasks). make your long term goals for your finals, standardized testing, etc. and then figure out ways you can meet that goal day-by-day. e.g. when i study for my finals, i get all my materials together, separate it by unit, go through the stuff, then make a study guide for each unit. but not all at once! i spread it out so that way by the time finals roll around i have everything i need.

prioritize. do you need to hardcore study for every SAT II? which one is the most important? (prospective engineer? then study for the math/sci ones, etc…)

sometimes i realize that getting sleep so that i’m ready for a test the next day is more important than a small assignment for some other class. with a full night’s sleep (which for me is 7 hours), my quality of thinking increases exponentially.

which brings me to my next point that sometimes, and i’d hate to say it, sleep needs to be sacrificed. but all-nighters definitely aren’t necessary by any means… this is high school. i recover from those nights with my friends mr. sugar-free red bull and mrs. coffee.

finally, reward yourself sometimes. and realize that this state of being isn’t going to last forever. you only have a few more months left until summer, so… just hold on!

1, you cant take 4 SAT II in one day. Not possible.

2, would you really need to study for the SAT II after studying for AP tests…?

3, play some COD. Shooting people always helps.

4, get a gf that will do ur hw…? Idk its possible…

5, here’s a novel idea! Copy some homework? Seems like ur in a bind and I’ve heard it helps.

6, if you aren’t motivated, why do them…?

7, seems like you are in a need to “do as little as possible” mentality. Find out the minimum you need to do, then do it.

8, do a little bit at a time.

9, know your limitations. If HW will take 4 hours to do, do it with at least 4 hours left before you go to bed.

10, Idk just wanted to get to 10.

this is what I do,

strike a deal with your parents and set a high-ish score for your tests/classes. Such as getting a new phone if you get (grade). Of course once you get the new phone your grades will plummet again… =)
