failing physics 8A

I have not taken physics before and I got 44.5 in the first MT, which is 25% of the grade. The mean is 66.59 and the sd is 18.68. the class is curved that 25% is an A, 40% is a B and the rest 35% is C or below. Am I going to fail the class? I know that I should study much much harder. And is it possible to get a B if I do well in the next MT and final?

Thanks.

The Physics department (especially the 8 series) is very generous with grades at the end of the semester. You probably have a C- now or even a C considering the SD. You should use all GSIs hours, even if it’s not your GSI (there is a room in which you can sit and study and ask questions). Go there, and stay there all the time when the GSIs are there. Even if you don’t have questions, you will learn by other people’s questions. Also, of course, go to office hours. Physics 8B is twice as hard, so prepare your helmet and be ready for the ride (although I liked 8B much more)

Absolutely. It’s better to do poorly on MT1 than do poorly on the final.
