So i just took my environmental exam and I think I may have failed it. Im a sophmore now and And the feeling of failing a midterm never gets any less stressful although Ive failed plenty my freshmen year. I am an aspiring environmental engineer but i have so much work in all my classes and are relatively difficult and this class is one of them. I dont know what to do to get over the grade or how I cam necessarily improve because I go to office hours and put in the time to study.
Wait until you get the score back, then look what what you got wrong and why. Did you study the wrong things? Did you work too slowly to finish the test in the time given? Did you know the stuff but have a bout of test anxiety?
My worst performance on an exam was due to a combination of not being as prepared as I could have been (I had been getting help for doing the problems too quickly instead of working through them myself) and panicking when I got to the test and it was difficult. I got a 37%. It was in one of my first real engineering courses.
I pulled out a B in the class thanks to some hard work (92% on the following exam) and an extra credit opportunity from the professor. It’s not the end of the world. Just analyze what went wrong and step it up from here on out.
My kid went to a tough tech-oriented college, and literally every student speaker at events throughout graduation weekend talked about failing exams. You have to keep going to office hours, see if you can get extra tutoring, and understand the material inside & out. There were semesters when my kid had little life outside of studying, but she managed to pass every class and get into grad school. Get after it harder – you can get through this.

Thanks alot guys. But to be honest, I do go to office hours and study and put in the work. I think it boils down to the fact that I’m not a good test taker and my memory just isnt THAT great. I can remember somethings but my problem is is that we get taught 6 million things for a class in 4 weeks and then have a test for it. I cant possibly remember all those things, especially when I have other classes that are equally as hard. Its tough for me to take the time to learn when I simple don’t have it because I have to be doing work for other classes (Which, keep in mind, I don’t have the time to learn those things either)
