Does anyone know how good the biology dept is at this school. Is this school considered pretty competitive. My dtr knew someone that went here thats why she checked it out. The campus is breath taking thats why I think she likes it so much I am just concerned with how strong it is it academically.

My son just graduated from the Madison Campus. He LOVED the school. They are very nurturing. We found the academics to be good, and we liked all of his friends that he introduced us to.

In addition, they have great food in their cafeteria and have a wonderful workout facilities that was used by the Giants for their training. Freshmen dorms were horrible though; however, upperclass dorms are generally very nice. They even have some new dorms that are great.

I am not sure that I understand your question about being "competivie." If you are asking about admission, the answer is that you generally need around an 1100 on the SAT ( Math and Verbal only) and can get accepted with a 3.0+. Thus, it isn't that hard to get into. I can't speak for the biology program; however, they do get kids into med schools who have majored in biology, if that is any criteria of quality. I would assume that their biology program is better than some and not as good as others.

One thing that I have noticed is that Fairleigh uses a lot of professors who are currently in their field. Amyway, come to the school and ask questions.

Do they offer Merit based aid?

I would like an answer to that question also

Marion:
I sent you a private message.

Yes, merit aid is awarded a lot! I think they give a maximum merit aid of $12,000 or so. My son got $6,000 per year. Cinsidering that their tuition isn't too bad, this isn't a bad award. Also, they give an extra $1,000 for the first year if you are recommended by an alumni. If you are really interested in attending, just PM me, and I will give you my son's name for your recommendation.

Be advised: many people do go home on the weekends. This was a real plus, however, for my son because he has a learning disability. Having many people leave on the weekends enabled him to study without distraction, which inturn enabled him to graduate Cum Laude.

As an aside, Fairleigh Dickenson has one of the best rated programs for kids with learning disabilities. It is hard to get into but for those that do are very fortunate. It is a very strong, organized program and is FREE for those students who get admitted to the program, which is about 40-50 per year.

They do have merit aid, and I know that for some of it (I don't if it is true for all scholarships) you are invited to interview for merit aid.

We know a young man who opted to attend FDU because he will receive generous merit aid. He was accepted to several schools that are considered "much better" but the family went with the financial incentives. Admissions is not very competitive, or selective. We visited and I was surprised at how beautiful the campus was. They encouraged us to fill out the application on the spot! Fee waived if app submitted right there. Also I think I recall a $1000 discount was offered if you get the app signed by a FDU graduate. I am not familiar with any of the academic departments except to second what taxguy said about the LD program.

One interesting thing about FDU that I learned from their website is they have D3 sports at the Florham Park campus and D1 sports at the other campus.

my daughter is interested in this college because they have a hospitality management program. we live in maryland and i was wondering if anyone knew just how empty the campus is on the weekends??

Caryni, My son tells me that the campus does empty out on weekends. If this is a big turnoff, your daughter won't like it. However, this was a BIG positive for many people such as my son. He had the weekend to study without all the distractions that occur on most colleges during the weekends. This resulted in his graduating Cum Laude, which isn't bad for a LD kid!

Also, I don't want to imply that everyone leaves on weekends. Some do stay around, and FD does have some events on some weekends, which keep kids there. Thus, if your daughter is looking for people and things to do, it does exist.

Thank you for all of the information. We are going to look at the campus Sept. 18th. I am really looking forward to it. I dont know how she will feel about not too many people being there on the weekends....any one else have this issue.
