Fake sick note

I would think that there’s probably a significant backstory we’re not hearing that would prompt the prof to check the validity of the note.

And, for what it’s worth, with such a deadly flu season this year, I can’t begin to imagine thinking that a trip to the doctor-- or the school health clinic-- would be a “waste” for someone with flu symptoms.

You need to do your explaining in person, not email. Email is the coward’s way out. If you truly want to come clean, do it the adult way, in person with a handshake thank you. Geez, kids and texts/emails.

So the student took all that time to research and plagiarize a fake doctor’s note but wasn’t able to take an exam. I dunno the whole thing is fishy. I’ll venture a guess and say there was no flu and he/she just didn’t want to take the exam.

As an MBA student NYU I had a M,W class with a rather long paper due on the next Monday. My longtime friends Mom died on the Thursday before so I called the prof and left a message (voicemail) explaining the situation and telling her I would turn it in on Monday but would prefer Weds. I never heard back from her and proceeded to miss class on Monday and hand in the paper on Weds.

The TA was whitefaced and said she was going to take a grade off for each day it was late. I asked to speak to the Professor who said the exact same thing. I was pissed and told the Professor I would not hand in the paper under those circumstances. She said at a minimum I should have a “note”.

I was dumbfounded and said “you really want a note from the bereaved?”

I did not hand in the paper and went to the Professors office the next day and handed in the paper with no penalty but did listen to why her rules were her rules. Students suck. and they lie. and they create all sorts of bogus excuses.

I played a varsity sport undergrad and missed at least 10 school days per semester as well as weekend travel. I would never have dreamed about asking for an extension so it always was bothersome when people would ask because they were working late at the school paper or had double shift at the cafeteria which says nothing about the outright lies.

That’s all find and dandy. I had a teacher who was a real hard butt about rules and deadlines. And then one day a student showed up to turn in her paper even though her mother passed away the night before. He felt like ____, well you know. He eased up a bit after that.
