Fall 07 Housing

I think I read the answer in another thread, but can't find it.

We are not 100% posititve D is going to attend USC, but do you think we should pay the upfront housing department and put in her building preferences? Would we be among the first to be doing this, or have people been doing this for the past few months? I would like to make sure she gets an all female freshman dorm. (by the way, I'd rather forfeit the $45 housing application, then her being in a dorm area she doesn't want)

Thanks!!

I meant to say upfront housing deposit....not department.

they've been taking housing deposits for Freshman for awhile, but I don't think its too far along in the process. It never hurts to put in her preferences and then it gives her access to the VIP U Choose option to help with roommate selection.
According to the housing site, you can get the 100$ portion of the 145$ fee back until June 30th with written notice. So if she chooses to go elsewhere you are out $45.

Housing applications opened on October 15, which is when I put S's deposit in. He really wanted a suite, and we wanted to be near the top of the list. I'm like you ---figured $45 was worth it, even if he decides to attend elsewhere. I know that there are quite a few people on the U Choose system already...so I think going ahead with the deposit would be a good idea. My S only had 3 or 4 potential matches for a while, then the number of people on U Choose seemed to increase a good bit after New Years Day. From what I hear, the female dorms are nice...the guys actually have much less to choose from. Something I read said that if a student picks a roommate, they place them according to the date of whichever one of them made the deposit first.
