This is for all the people who have been accepted or rejected to various graduate schools for fall 2006.
Tell us abt your scores, college GPA's schools applied, and the acception rejection list and the financial aid package you got...... Everytjing you cn tell us.

It may be helpful for others in deciding which colleges to apply to or what can they expect from their scores!

In my case and few others on this USC MFA Animation waitlist, yes! I've heard it could be up to August when notifications are sent out. I think spots become open when people change their minds. I feel for the international students that have to wait until the last minute for accept/reject letter.

Major: Art emphasis in Graphic Design
GPA: 3.6
UG Activities: Phi Kappa Phi Honor Soc., Alpha Chi Honor Soc., SGA, Who's Who Among Amer. College Students, National Dean's List, President's List, President of Art Club
Employment: Worked in television and graphic design for 12 years; Mac/PC guru.

I submitted portfolio of charcoal/pastel drawings in Powerpoint, 5 strong recommendation letters, application and a great personal statement. I think the one thing that counted against my favor was my GRE score. I didnt make the minimal 1000 score required at USC which they (USC) told me the GRE was a formality of taking the test rather than a component counted against you.

USC basically said they only had 14 spots for the MFA Animation for the Fall 2006 only. I have to re-apply next year for 2007. I gave it my all to get in my dream school (USC). I think I may apply for grad school elsewhere for Fall 2008. I have decided to go to Otis College of Art & Design to study animation for my 2nd Bachelor degree for next 2 years.

I don't know if this will be helpful for anybody, as it was for Fall, 2005, but here goes:

Majors: Media & Politics
Minor: Chinese Language and Culture
GPA: 3.4 (3.7 final 2 years and in major)

Yay! A thread where I get to show how wonderful I am!

Major: Political Science
Minor: Japanese
GPA: 3.8 overall, 3.7 major, 3.5 minor
1 year of work experience, good internship experience, study abroad, blah blah

GRE: 650 V/ 650 Q/ 6.0 A

Harvard KSG: BALEETED
Columbia SIPA: BALEETED
JHU SAIS: ALWIGHT!
LSE MSc in IR: ALWIGHT!
UCSD IR/PS: ALWIGHT! (attending)
NYU MA in poli sci: ALWIGHT!

Haha...is that a subtle Homestarrunner reference?

At any rate, it looks like you did well for yourself. Bold move turning down SAIS, but ultimately a good one, I think.

A bit of an update since the last time we talked: I will be making the move back to NYC this week to start work with a Manhattan political consulting firm, and I couldn't be more stoked! Now, I just have to find a place to live, and things will be perfect...

Anyway, good luck at UCSD, and enjoy the rest of your time in Japan.

I'm glad you got the reference! I was afraid that someone would burst in, ready to tell me that I hate people with speech impediments or something-- the PC police are ever so touchy...

Your new digs sound fantastic! If I could land something like that, but in California, I'd be thrilled.

As far as my bold move goes, I didn't really feel too bad about giving them a "negative" letter. In the end, I'll be saving tens of thousands of dollars, be thousands of kilometers (damn you Japan, I've been metricised!) closer to my friends and somewhat-but-not-quite-fianc

UCLAri, I hear you on the somewhat-but-not-quite thing, although mine is only a fiance with one e. It's so awkward to try and explain to people that no, we're not engaged, but yes, we're planning our wedding...

Anyway, I guess I'll say my stuff too.

Major: Brain and Cognitive Sciences, Biology
GPA: 4.4 overall, 4.3 biology, 4.5 brain and cognitive sciences

2 publications, including one in Cell

Interview, then accepted: Harvard BBS*, MIT Biology, Stanford Biosciences, UCLA ACCESS, UC Berkeley MCB
Interview, then reeejected: UCSF Tetrad
Got an interview, but I turned it down: UMich PIBS, Caltech Biology, BU MCB
*going here!

Haha, LA traffic makes me claustrophobic. Plus, said almost-fiance is a Massachusetts boy, and nearly had a heart attack when I began seriously considering moving to California. He is also still an undergrad, but has been informed that planning a wedding plus working on a thesis will make me certifiably insane, so it's either get engaged soon or wait six years. ;)
