Fall 2008 Student Profile with enrollement stats

Cal Poly finally put up their enrollment stats for fall.

Looks like stats for incoming freshman were indeed higher than 2007.

OOS enrollment is 6%. Any idea what they look for in these applicants? Are only top tier considered? Should an OOS applicant with mid-range stats even bother?

Cal Poly admissions is entirely based on statistics. They look at GPA (9-11 grades weighted and capped as far as number of extra points given to honors/AP courses), SAT CR and Math scores, and 4 additional questions regarding hours worked and EC hours, and whether job/ECs are related to your major. If your statistics put you in the top of the ranges for incoming freshmen, then by all means apply. Mid-range stats for OOS students without significant job/EC hours would make your chances of acceptance fairly low.

Cal Poly is hard even for top in-state students to get in, especially for impacted majors.

It's up to you. The application itself is easy to fill out online.

In addition to the statistics mentioned by vballmom, Cal Poly considers "rigor of secondary school record". This RIGOR SCORE is calculated using the number of college prep A-G classes beyond the minimum required, the number of AP/IB/Honors classes taken in grades 9-12 (I think), and any college courses courses taken in grades 9-12. (1 semester of a college class counts the same as 2 semesters of an Honors/AP/IB high school class.)
