I received it too. I think it must mean we are in?!

I got that message too! I’m taking that as a good sign since it says that “All high school seniors admitted to UCSD as freshman undergraduates, and who meet the preliminary eligibility requirements of the medical scholars program, are invited to apply,” and that application to the program is by invitation only.

Our son received that same invitation in 2006, and he was soon afterwords accepted to UCSD. I don’t know enough about their admissions process and invitation process to know if everyone who receives that invitation is ultimately accepted, but it sure seems likely. His official acceptance came in mid-March.

Hi lovetocamp,
Dd your son attend UCSD? If so, how did he like it?

I applied as a Human Biology major with Molecular Biology as my alternate choice. I put Muir as my first choice college. Honestly, I don’t really know how accurate it is, because I’ve not visited campus and I obviously do not know much about the individual colleges apart from the descriptions on the UC application, lol. Does anyone here know of people who absolutely hated their first-choice college?

I also got the Medical Scholars Program invitation! The fact that they only accept 12 students into the program is a bit of a bummer, but I’m still taking it as a good sign of acceptance.

I’m currently going to a JC in the bay area, and I’m tagging. As long as I don’t succumb to transferitis, I should be golden. I’m taking 23.5 units this semester, so it’s especially hard to stay motivated :(

I picked Psychology first, Linguistics (Language and Cognition) second. And I want to be in Revelle.

Good luck everybody!

Matrix123, Hi. Unfortunately no, he did not attend UCSD. He was also accepted to UCLA, USC, and a few others. He ended up choosing USC. He gradudated with a B.S. EE, and is currently working as an Engineer, so all things considered, we were/are pleased with his choice. I think that he would have happy at most of the schools that he applied to, including UCSD. Our daughter is hoping to hear from UCSD, for a different major. Good luck to all of you.

That would explain why I’ve seen you on the USC thread, lovetocamp. Good luck to all over the next month while acceptances come in!

Also got the Undergraduate Medical Scholars Program email today. I am hoping it is a good sign because I have not heard from UCI or Cal Poly. They were not my first choices but I thought I would get in during the first wave of acceptances. Kind of weird how all this acceptance stuff works.

For some of the UC’s, if you get in, they sometimes have “extras” (Honors programs, Scholarships, Engineering School special invitations, other Majors special invitations, etc.). Therefore, it is possible to hear of an acceptance (confirmed, or suggested) before the official date. My son had several of these in 2006. My daughter has also received a few of these this yaer, including the Honors Program at UCI. She logged onto the UCI school’s website, it had an unexpected “You have been Accepated” message. Normally, each of the UC campuses have their official Acceptance/Rejection Date (March 15: UCD, UCSB, March 31: UCSD, UCLA, UCI, etc… But, as i indicated, for some applicants, you will actually hear “officially” before the official date for all applicants. Let me be clear, the invitation for Scholarships (Deans, Alumni, etc.) is NOT an inidication of early acceptance. I only say this because our son was accepted to several UC campuses. Some sent of them sent out the scholarhip emails. But he also received the Scholarship email from campuses that he was NOT accepted to. So, do not assume anything, until you see an Official “you have been Accepted” either via their website, via an email, or via an official snail mail. Again, Good Luck to each of you.

So, people who get into this Medical Scholar Program are pretty those that get accepted to Stanford, Harvard, etc. right?

doesn’t mean that people who barely make the cut (like me) have practically no chance of getting accepted into this program?

read the previous posts! They say the basic requirement is 4.0 gpa and 2250/34 on sat/act. If you meet the requirement, then u have a chance.

oh joy… this thread makes me sooo nervous… i know my SAT’s suck… i just dont do well on them for some weird reason (i do “average ~ 1860~”) but my GPA is beast. LOL! UCSD is my no. choice… i just hope i get in!!!
i calculated my points and its like a 8000 –> 8100+… im so nervous…about a month left until decisions (if its the 15th)

EDITS: is it “bad” if you didn’t get into the meds scholar program if you want to major in meds?

spatel, I’m pretty sure most students, pre-med included, do not get above a 2250 on their SATs. I wouldn’t worry about it.

I’m nervous, too. Just realize that UCSD isn’t your only option (I know it’s easier said that done.) Assuming you didn’t receive supplements, UCSD has already decided your fate, so it’s really just a waiting game at this point. Good luck :)

do you guys really think that they will boost up the minimum points for admission? from a 7744 (ish) to something ridiculous like 8000+?

the medical scholars program only takes a select few (12) students every year, so its not “bad” at all if you dont get in. Those students are just very lucky lmao

^I think you meant “imo” right?

nope, i meant lmao…over 3000 students are eligible and only 12 get it, yeah, theyre qualified, but theyre still lucky. sure its my opinion, but thats implied because i was the one talking

It really depends how qualified the applicants are this year. The average GPA of freshmen applicants actually dropped .01 from 2010 to 2011, so the caliber of students applying isn’t actually rising. With 8000 (I think?) new applicants, however, it is hard to tell what the average stats of admitted freshmen will be. The point cutoff could stay the same, or it could very well reach 8000.

brr!!! i sort of hope it doesn’t… but but for me it wont matter too much im a bit over 8000 [depending on how they view my leadership]
lol! its almost the 15th…how exciting…
but a quick question which i hope does not happen to any of us:
what would you do if you are wait listed. will you take the risk to wait or would you sent your SIR [i think thats what it is called] or just jump to a community college and the whole TAG
