Fall 2011 admissions cycle @ GS

Hi all, are there any Fall 2011 GS applicants on CC?
Anyone going for Early decision on March 1st on anyone International here?
Best of luck to everybody and looking forward to discuss the process with you guys ITT!

i’m applying rd for fall 2011.

I think i’ll go ED because my other school require application submission by March 1st

hey everyone! i’m also applying for ED fall 2011. i’m currently working on my autobiographical essay. i’m almost finished, but it’s already in the area of 2,500 words. is that way too many, or am i ok? any insight is appreciated. thanks!

anyone who has already been accepted: how many words did your finished essay end up being?

Mine will be between 1500-2000 words, lol! Also applying for Fall 2011 here :P

i wish i could say the same J445! i submitted all 2,500 words last night. fingers crossed til i find out! good luck!

they just posted a southern california date for the GSAE. march 27th!!! my application isn’t complete until i sit for the exam. i still qualify for early action, but i was hoping to find out a little bit sooner. oh well! my other option is to fly out to NYC. luckily im patient. a nervous wreck about the whole thing, but patient nonetheless!

Good luck man! Still working on my essay, kinda nervous about what SAT score will be coming back here :)

What are everyones stats if you dont mind ?

So in checking my application status my current community college transcript status is “pending/provisional.”

Does anyone know what that means exactly? I have some decent guesses, but am not entirely sure. I’ve emailed the admissions office a few times regarding other questions, and don’t want to annoy them with my anxiety.

Should I be concerned? If the status doesn’t change in the next week, I’m going to email them to see if everything’s alright. My GED transcript status is “official final,” which I’m guessing is good, right? I’m applying EA and am an anxiety-overloaded-stress-case. Any insight?

Would I be safe to assume that the “pending” status just means that I need to send them another transcript after I finish out my current semester? I can still be accepted/rejected before then though, right?

Your fine. It just means, as you’ve previously stated, that your transcripts are not “final” until you submit your most recent semester grades (Spring 2011). I didn’t get around to submitting it until a month after I was enrolled. As a current student here, I just have a few words of caution: the workload here is no joke. If you are accepted and you do decide to enroll here, just be prepared to work very hard. If you have any questions feel free to ask, and good luck!

Thanks rcave13. Definitely a huge relief to hear that. Congrats on getting in, hopefully I’ll be able to say the same this coming fall. I would expect a crushing workload, but I love challenges and am willing to do what it takes. Thanks again! Nothing beats peace of mind.

I applied EA for fall 2011 and I am pending a response (OH the suspense!). I am also taking classes this spring and when I log in it states Provisional/Pending.
When did you find out you were accepted and how did the process work for you?

Hooray! I found my home. I was accepted to GS a couple weeks ago- it’s all coming down to financial aid for me, but I was hoping to meet some of my potential classmates if I end up going.

I’m a very hard worker, 4.0 GPA, but I’m not gonna lie- this VERY HARD WORKLOAD thing is starting to intimidate me…I have kids, as I thought a lot of GS’ers did, so am I going to have to completely miss out on their lives for the next few years in order to graduate from Columbia?
(…however, that last part does still sound incredible- graduating from COLUMBIA…hahaha awesome)

you have kids too!! well hello, new BFF!

i have been feeling the same way. i consider myself an insanely hard worker, and i am totally nervous about the, and i quote, “workload that will push you into the red for a few years” (thank you, hellojan).

what ages are your kids? i have a 4 year old boy and a 2.5 year old girl. should be a wild next two years.

lol yup I hear ya! I also have a terrible two- and raising my daughter IN NO WAY prepared me for this, LOL he is a nightmare- and I mean that in the most loving way possible, of course. But total, I have four, two bio and two step, ages 9, 6, 5 (turning six in a couple weeks), and 2 (turning 3 in August, although I have no hope for any sort of change in awful behavior at age 3, either…I’m aiming for five…if he’s not more manageable by then, I’m selling him). Haha I might as well break you guys in with my brand of humor now…hope it flies here… :)

And Liz, thanks so much for pointing me in this direction! So nice to finally find a GS crew!! I felt awfully lonely in the transfer forum. Searched forEVER for other GS’ers and came up totally dry until now. Yay!

have you looked into the preschools yet?

No, since he’ll be turning three right around the beginning of the school year, I wasn’t sure I would be allowed to. Where I’m from- where there ISN’T a crazy application process and people willing to claw each other’s eyes out to get their kids into the “right” PRESCHOOL- they take 4 yr-olds first and if there’s any room they begin taking 3 yr-olds. Knowing that New York is just plain crazy in this department, I figured I didn’t have much hope for getting him into preschool at 3 no matter what. But I also didn’t look too intently into it because I had no idea I would get in. I made sure I would have access to on-site daycare and just stopped there- I figured there was no point in making solid plans for a school and area that there was a good chance I would not actually end up…

But the time has come. I have a lot of calls to make tomorrow! So, does it look to you like we stand a chance of getting our 3 year olds in, or are you looking for your son?

i know, i am shocked at the insane application process in NYC!

i am having a small panic attack. the preschools listed have a tutition of between about 18,000- 26,000 a year. and i have TWO kids. good god!

i am so curious : if you arent doing preschool, who will watch your kids while you go to class? do you have another method that i don’t know about? spill your secret!

currently they go to preschool 4 days a week from about 8am to 4pm. i do all my homework while they are at school, along with volunteering at school as an english tutor to disabled students. i am wondering how i am going to have this same routine in NYC.
