Fall 2012 grades are out..

So I didn't do as well as I had hoped to do this first semester, and ended up averaging a 3.3 GPA... is this an acceptable GPA? So many people are telling me that I have to get above a 3.5 to be competitive later on in terms of jobs or internships.

I have also been doing other things at USC this semester, like a club sport which practices 4 days a week for a couple of hours each time, a religious club, tutoring at a nearby high school, a mentor-mentee program, and an internship which I will be starting next semester.

In order to pull my GPA to a 3.5, I will have to get a 3.67 next semester, and I don't think that will happen because of the types of classes I will be taking.

How much does staying below a 3.5, but above a 3.0 jeopardize my future internship and job prospects?

Btw, I am a business major.

Thanks!

Is there grade inflation at SC? Is a B the average grade?

This is only your first semester, so you have a lot of time to bring your grades up. A 3.3 is not bad at all. Graduating below a 3.5 wont completely jeopardize your future, but it might prevent you from getting the internship over someone who has a 3.7 with previous internship/work experience. But you can still find solid internships with a GPA above a 3.0. You have enough time to get your GPA over a 3.5, anyway. Don’t stress too much and try really hard next semester.
