Fall 2012 Transfer

hey, I was just wondering if anyone else was waiting for a decision?

I am still waiting. I applied near the end of April, and I think my application was complete around the first week of May.

When did you apply? And, have you heard anything yet?

I applied in March and I’m still waiting. The letter I recieved said by the start of summer, which is June 20th I believe. To be honest I dont think I stand a very good chance but it is my dream school and Im keeping my hopes up.

I applied in March, too but I’m admitted in May 17th. They sent the admission letter in emails.

Son was accepted to GBS last year but merit scholarship was not enough so opted for Scranton. While presently happy, we did discuss possibilities of transferring either for spring 2013 or fall 2013. Has good gpa and at present is on track to double major in accounting or finance and econ.
If so, would either get apt off campus or commute.
Any thoughts or recommendations…

sportsman:

I don’t think kids who opt out of a scholarship offer (even if not very big) and then transfer back in will be re-offered the same scholarship offer. In fact, you are likely on your own. So you need to check with admissions/financial aid and get it in WRITING before you pull the trigger on that. Scranton is a fine school. Nothing wrong with them that I know of, except they dont have the penache of Fordham in New York, if that is his goal for a career.

As far as commuting or living off campus, I presume he would do that to save money, versus paying the dorm/food plan rates on campus. There is a lot of benefit of living on campus vis a vis hanging with classmates, easy access to library and so forth. But there are apartments on campus where kids cook their own food as well and save money (reportedly) from the food service charges. Its a very subjective decision, depending on your financial constraints and his ultimate goal for career and whether the added expense of attending Fordham pays dividends with a better paying job when he graduates. In finance and accounting, the odds are he will find a good job out of Gabelli and it may well pay better than a job he might find out of Scranton. If he works in Manhattan, for example.

I did not get into fordham. But I did get accepted into Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Good luck to everyone who hasn’t heard back.
