Fall 2013 Early Action

I live in Chicago.

Congrat!!! aiccia

Hey guys, I’ve been following the thread for a while and thought I’d join in. I started applying on February, but lining up everything and everyone didn’t give me enough time to submit everything for EA. Finally, as of March 27 my application has been under review. I called and was told I should hear from them between May 1 and May 15. I haven’t been in school in 10 years, so I really hope I did well on my GSAE (taken March 23 in Chicago). Anyway, good luck to all and keep us all posted as soon as you hear from them!

And congrats aicccia!

Welcome to6284! Did you submit part I and part II of the application by May 1st? Cuz it seems like you are still considered early action, just a bit extended. I submitted the application by may 1st but just faxed my last supporting doc last friday. My app is still not being reviewed and I find it just so stressful :(

Hi denbal87!

I’ve been submitting materials as they’ve become available to me. Here’s what my status online says:

In addition, they received my GSAE in March and my high school transcripts March 5.

I would also like to point out that both of my letters of recommendation were mailed in for EA, but one somehow got lost and I had to ask them to process it online (hence the March 28 date). Most of my documents were sent around February 18, but a lot of it didn’t post until late March… Maybe they started reviewing my documents before they became part of the online system? idk… I’m just keeping my fingers crossed and hoping to hear back soon!

Thanks for such detailed response! It seems that I did submit most things earlier than you, so logically my app should be under review as well. It makes me think again that even though they said they would use my SAT instead of the toefl they forgot about it and are still thinking I am submitting a toefl result. Ugh I’m gonna wait a few days and call them again if there’re still no new updates. Good luck anyhow!

Don’t worry to6284! I haven’t been in college for 22 years and I made it in! Thank God they didn’t ask us to do a math test! Phew!

Also applied GS early action and the wait is ruining my life! Ok not really but boy-o-boy the stress is ridiculous!

4.0 3 semesters
3 good letters of rec.
made a mistake on my ESSAY!! Typo… Realized after I hit submit, oh the shame! Other than that the essay is pretty good.

Totally AWESOME!
What are my chances in your (all of yours) opinions? I’ve never saved the world and I’ve never risked my life for my country but I’m hoping ME will suffice.

… Waiting sucks!

tell me about it! i feel like i’m that brody guy from homeland being tortured by both sides

I’m right with you. So far only ONE acceptance in this thread?!!

This is killing me!!

Same here, guys. I’ve been checking my email obsessively too many times a day. I’m still waiting for my app to be under review though… I really think that even though an admissions manager told me they would wave the TOEFL requirement for me, they actually forgot to as it still shows up as “not received” in my app tracker. I feel like it should say “waived”, like my app fee does. Ugh, I’m running out of patience!

stats for me: 3.82 in community college, ten years as a stay at home parent, ten years as a lab tech in an aquarium, internship at a world renowned marine science research institute, born and raised in Africa (not sure if that even mattered though - ha!), EXCELLENT letters of recommendation and pretty solid essay describing why Columbia is a good fit for me in terms of my path towards an environmental science/sustainable development major. GS students are so varied that I don’t think there is really a formula… again, that genuine story of promise is what I think is really important. I didn’t do anything to save the world and I got in. Your stats looks great and a typo on your essay will not faze them. When I look back at my essay, I cringe a bit because its flow is a bit off. The story is great but if I were to grade it technically, I would give it a B-. Keep the faith!

The last post was directed toward natdcny btw :)

denbal87,

If I were you, I would probably give them another call, and inquire about it. I was in the same situation where my application status showed the TOEFL as “not received,” and therefore classifying my application as “incomplete.” I called them. The lady who helped me saw that although I’m not a native English speaker, my secondary education was in the US, and I also submitted SAT scores. Thankfully she took care of the matter while on the phone with her, she then said she was submitting my application for review that very moment. According to the application tracker, it only updates once a night - and surely my TOEFL requirement showed as “Not Applicable/Required” the next day.
I am, of course, still waiting. Hope that helps!

Thanks hismatix, I just called and explained it all again. But the woman on the phone told me that I need to communicate with that admiss manager. I did send him an email today, but who knows how long it’s gonna take for him to respond since he never responded to my previous email. I am almost positive it was a mistake on his part.

Can anybody tell me how important is the TOEFL ? I also took it but I didn’t do we’ll on it. Thanks

Thanks! Hope your right about the essay glitch, it’s been driving me crazy.
Also…
I posted three letters of recs. on my app. And only two appear on the “application tracker.” Is that because only two are required but the third is still reviewed or should I be making a phone call?

Any of you take the GS SAT Test this past February 25 on campus? The round table of pain and stolen dreams… Aaah yes good times!
