Just wanted everyone to know that I received this email yesterday:

Dear XXX,

On behalf of the Admissions Committee, I would like to extend a sincere congratulations to you. You have been chosen among a select group of applicants to whom we are offering the opportunity to study at Columbia University’s School of General Studies. After carefully reviewing your application, the Committee recognized your impressive qualifications and outstanding promise and believes you are an excellent fit for the program.

@Fiatlux20 I was also admitted to UC Berkeley and I am going to probably choose Columbia over it, and I would not say that Columbia GS is easier to get into than UC Berkeley and especially UCLA. You are still in the game!! Good luck

I am beginning to wonder if my Early Action application has not been reviewed because it was somehow overlooked…hmmm

I submitted Part 1 of the application November of last year, but requested to have it re-dated for Early Action this year. Part two was submitted before the Early Action deadline.

I contacted the Columbia Admissions staff several times throughout the past couple of months and they have assured me that the application is “good and complete.”

I am not sure though. Maybe it may look “well” on their side, but the actual Admissions/Reviewing Officer may not be able to see it in his or her system (assuming that they use different systems)?

Don’t know what to think. I just find it odd that my application has not even been reviewed when we have less than 10 days till May 1st.

Congratulations @Stein614. I’m a little bit curious as to why some received email notifications and others did not. I received a hard copy notification over a week ago, but was never notified by email. Good news is good news, though, however received.

Dare I ask if anyone has heard back negatively so far? We’ve heard from a few people who have gotten in, but I haven’t heard from anyone who hasn’t gotten in yet.

To those who haven’t heard yet, I wouldn’t read into it. Hopefully you’ll hear back soon.

As a previous poster mentioned, has anyone thought about setting up a FB page for admitted students? I’m not very FB savvy, otherwise I’d give it a shot.

@justaheadsup11 Like I was saying I only got an email about my transfer credits that stated I had been accepted - likely something that anyone would get “after” receiving official notification by mail/fedex, but, since I’m overseas, the mail/fedex situation could be completely jacked up. That said, it’s likely a decision was made a couple weeks ago and the mail just hasn’t gotten here. Who knows. BTW @jemendez10 keep the faith - it’s unlikely that something is wrong when they’ve repeatedly assured you everything is fine. Just a few days left.

Congrats to those who are in. I just called GS and they told me that my application is under review and I should hear back in 2-4 weeks. Isn’t the deadline may 1st? Its funny because last week when I asked the same question, they told me that they will try to finish early action apps by Easter. Has anyone received a rejection letter? Its so painful to walk by Columbia everyday on my way to school and not know whether Ill get in or not. The only thing thats keeping my hope up at this point is remembering that my fiancé got her acceptance on April 29th last year.

@jemendez10 There were several complications with my application due to system error which were not fully resolved until last week when my app was finally placed in line for review. I wouldn’t worry. The window is still open. Good news awaits!

In addition to possibly creating a newly-admitted students FB group, those who have recently been admitted might want to consider joining the following groups:

These will give you some insight into what’s going on at GS currently, and will also provide an opportunity for you to begin connecting with current students before your arrival on campus. Congrats to those who’ve been accepted! =D>

Just got my acceptance package in the mail today. Submitted all materials March 1st – live in CA Bay Area. Got acceptance to UCLA and waiting on Berkeley this Friday to make a decision. Hope everyone hears back from GS soon!

Also, don’t kill yourselves with stress guys. When I saw the fedex envelope, it was so thin I thought it was a rejection letter, and for some reason I just started laughing, haha. Life is too short to beat yourself up over these things. Be patient, and if you don’t get accepted this time, there is always next time. Of course, once I opened it and saw the acceptance I was very happy, but I wasn’t going to let a rejection letter tear me apart either. Remember what the important things are.

Congratulations! I love GS, but for anyone who is accepted to Berkeley AND qualifies for instate tuition, I have to imagine that’s going to be your better bet.

Yeah I did not get instate tuition, for I live in new York. Price being about the same, I think I am going to choose Columbia! Proximity to Wall Street (I want to go into finance), the academics, the resources, and the students are unparallel in my unprofessional opinion.

@jemendez10 That’s because the ones who’ve already been accepted are frolicking in the sun while those who are still awaiting word are too busy crapping their pants.
