@Gman95 Ok cool. I reported my GPA as 2.88 through CSU mentor, but it is now 3.01 after last semester (fall 2014). I wish there was a way to change my GPA on my application for Pomona so I have a better chance of getting in!
Accepted.
Major: Electrical Engineering (impacted)
Gpa: 3.95
In state college
Completed required courses for the UC’s and just applied.
Applied to: USC, UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UW-Madison, SLO, SDSU, and SJSU.
So far I have only heard back from SJSU(accepted) so I’m waiting to hear from the rest
@mustang Some of you engineer majors have outstanding gpas, i mean 3.95 is no easy task. Did you take any courses pass/nopass (same as credit/nocredit)? the other engineer majors posting here all have atleast a 3.5+ its crazy. I wanna know why you even applied to CPP though, i know its good for engineering but with your stats you could get into one of those top tier UCs easy, why so many choices?
@Gman95 i have applied to UCLA,UCI and UCSD, but cal poly has a special place in my heart i dont know why. it is more hands on school and the classes are smaller. however the research opportunities at any UC school are great. i will wait until i hear back from all schools i have applied to, do in depth research before i make my final decision.
i never took p/np classes.
@Gman95
CPP is cheaper and has a lot of good internship opportunities. The class sizes and hands on approach are another reason. Also, the only required major courses to transfer to CPP for most engineering majors are Calc 1-3. Most of the UC schools and SLO require everything to be finished… I’ve been at a cc for 3 yrs full time and I’d have to stay one more for that. I already have 90 units but I had to start at a low math so I’ve taken 30+ units of math. I would prefer to go to SLO but I don’t want to wait another year at cc. I have 2 kids under 2 and they their dad to hurry and get that money!
Accepted on Friday

I have everything completed and more.
I have a little more than 100 units completed.
Transferring from PCC
I applied last year and wasn’t accepted. Though, i didn’t have any of my calculus or chemistry done. Now i’m way past calculus and am finishing up my chem.
I have an AS-T in Mathematics, but for some reason they didn’t look at it during the review.
How do you think my chances are?
My friend just got accepted as a Mechanical Engineer Major with a 3.4 GPA.
I applied to CSUF, CSULA(accepted), CSULB(denied), CPP, and USC
@Gman95 No. I did not take any pass/no pass classes because I wanted to finish my course work in two years rather than three so every unit had to count. I applied to CPP because it was one of the better CSU’s for engineering. I applied to the 4 CSU’s: CPP, CP SLO, SDSU, and SJSU, all of which I considered as my back ups just in case I didn’t get into any of the UC’s, USC or UW. My GPA is high and near perfect. That being said, I was still rejected by SLO and SDSU. The reason I applied to so many schools was because in high school, I dreamed about being accepting into schools like Berkeley, UCLA, or USC. And when I would tell my friends about it, they’d laugh at me and say “keep dreaming! A guy like you making it to a top university like Berkeley will never happen.” I was never the straight A student. I rarely attended class so i failed a majority of them. I was also surrounded by gang violence (my older brother is in a gang) my whole life and almost being sucked into in myself, it made things far more difficult. So, due to my circumstances and averaging around a 1.** GPA, attending any of those universities would be impossible. I was barely able to graduate high school. I chose to attend a CC because it was my only option and while I was there, I worked my butt off. I applied to top universities not to prove the people who doubted me wrong but rather to show myself that I have what it takes to make it to a university like Berkeley. Forgive me for the long post but that is part of the reason why I applied to so many schools. Plus, applying to a lot of schools gives me more options to choose from, just because I get accepted to Berkeley that doesn’t mean I’ll completely rule out CPP. I want to explore my options and see what each has to offer. However, my top choice is USC, followed by UCB, and UCSD.
Glad to know that you don’t care about people’s opinions. No one can destroy people’s dreams. So keep working hard. Hope your brother can learn from you. Good Luck!!!
