lets keep this thread going, i wanna know what you guys think of CPP ( campus, activities, etc.) even if you have or havent been admitted. I wanna know how you guys feel about transferring, how was community college like vs how will a 4 year college feel like. I honestly didnt think community college was important, but it saved alot of money, classes are easier (i think), and its definitely a different option than what most people and my family have done. I am one of the few who didnt go straight to a 4 year college in my family, not that thats a bad thing… but i digress. tell me what you think.
@nofunever Oh wow. I didn’t know that. Going off last year’s thread, I was expecting them to painfully draw out the decision process until May. Where did you find the April 1st deadline?
@Gman95 I’ve actually never visited the campus. I originally attended Miracosta College in Oceanside (North San Diego), transferred to SFSU, and now I’m trying to transfer back to SoCal for my senior year. I really don’t like SFSU, or the city itself. If any of you are thinking of attending, I can tell you my reasons for disliking it but I don’t want to get into all of that now.
I went to community college on and off for 6 years(!!) because I didn’t know what I wanted to do career-wise, and I really enjoyed working and being financially independent. It was work first, school second. I was going back and forth between going to a traditional 4-year and attending culinary school. Although I regret wasting so much time, I do not regret going to community college first. It saved me a ton of money and it gave me time to mature and finally realize what I want to do/what I’m “meant” to do as a career. I know a lot of people who attended a 4-year right out of high school, but then end up unemployed, or working dead-end/min. wage jobs after graduating because they got their degree in the wrong field, partied too much to keep up grades, etc. and now they are trying to start over (applying for grad school, having to take pre-reqs for it, and so on.)
As a student at a 4-year college, I can’t stress enough how important it is to go to class everyday you are physically able to. If you plan on attending grad school after, you should also try your best to go to office hours and talk to your professors often, so you can get solid letters of rec. later. Also, no one is going to be there to hold your hand through what you need to do in order to graduate, so take the initiative to be responsible for yourself and see an advisor every semester to make sure you’re on the right track.
Also, because I started when I was 24, I was able to apply for Financial Aid as an independent, and my tuition is free every semester at state… so that makes me feel a little better about being an older undergrad
@kittenfarts Hey, thanks for replying. I haven’t seen the campus either, i’ll have to wait until orientation. I know community college definitely saves money, also to get your General ed courses done, and maybe explore your interests a little… I found i was terrible at math but i managed to pass statistics with a B and that fulfilled my math requirement, which led me to becoming a business major, although i am still not sure about it, because i had to pick something fast if i wanted to finish in 2 years. I know some people attend community college to continue their education at their own pace or because they have work, kids, bills to pay, etc. So, i just focused on finishing in 2 years so that i could transfer, and maybe by then I would know what I am doing, lol.
I will be 20 next month, so i actually did manage to be on track half way through, and im not gonna lie, it does feel good to get out of community college in 2 years (i mean this in the most endearing way). as the saying goes, “we must move on to bigger and better things” (no idea where i heard that lol). Although, my circumstances were easy, I don’t work,no kids, no bills, i was able to just focus on school and completing my courses. Yeah i know, i was better off in regards to my parents than most people (meaning, them paying for housing, food, tuition). However I did apply for financial aid my last year of highschool and they ended up paying about 2000$ in enrollment fees for the entire year which was great, school was free for me too, besides textbooks and online programs. It was called (BOGW fee) Board of Governors Waiver fee.
@kittenfarts That must be awesome, most state schools are about 3 to 6 thousand a quarter/semester, i mean yeah you should always apply for financial aid, i had no idea if i would get any benefits and i did, for your situation since you are filed as independant, is crazy because they are paying alot of $$$. I did apply for financial aid at CPP, last day it was due was March 2nd, and i didnt find out until the 1st lmao. I know im not gonna get any benefits because i am filed as a dependant, but i did it so maybe i could get into a work study program and start making $$ that way until an internship or something.
If anyone else wants to write a response, please do! It’s cool to read what you guys have done and also your opinions on cal poly pomona or just how college was for you in general. Let’s try to keep this thread alive until everyone has heard their admissions decisions (April 1st is the deadline).
Who says April 1st is the deadline?
@anikom15 if you look at the definitions of application status page it says to expect a decision by April 1st under the “ready for review” and “decision pending” statuses. The link says wiki in it, but it came straight from the cpp website.
https://ehelp.wiki.cpp.edu/BroncoDirect:Student_and_Applicant_Help-_Application_Status_Help#Ready_for_Decision
I just want to let you guys know if you are not accepted by April 1st DO NOT freak out. I applied 2 years ago and was accepted mid April. I also know people who were accepted in September. Most will be accepted by the end of April but do not freak out if you were not.
I called admissions department and the recording says they are handing out admission decisions on a rolling basis through the end of April. Ugh! I am hoping there is a next wave soon.
that’s good that April 1st isn’t a solid deadline!! you guys have plenty of time then
ACCEEPTEEEEEEED
EVERYONE CHECK YOUR PORTAL
I was just accepted!!
For those who missed my stats:

This is a huuuuge weight off my shoulders! This is my #2 school, with SDSU and UCSD being tied for first. Good luck to you all! I’ll probably be in this thread asking questions about the process a bunch.
Sorry got excited and didnt post my stats
Chemical engineering
Tansfer from san diego area
GPA 3.31
Golden 4 complteted
85 units
Ayyyy I got accepted too!
In-state transfer, local w/ 3.4 gpa
Major: Computer engineering
Feels good after I just got denied by SLO.
@fckngoomba yeah i know how you feel, i was denied by CSULB although, i got accepted to pomona definitely felt good. SLO is actually hard to get into though its up there with the best colleges in california if not the best engineering school
@Gman95 Ya it definitely was a long shot but it still hurt >_<. Oh man that sucks. My friend applied to CSULB for CS with like a 3.8 gpa and they denied him too. It’s pretty tough to get in if you’re not a local. Ahh well, CPP is awesome too. I just hope I’ll be able to get classes haha. You engineering also?
.
@Gman95 Hey just curious, I saw you posted your GPA as 2.95 and 2.86. Which was the one you reported for CPP? And congratulations, btw!
@fckngoomba Nah im not in engineering, Business Administration (technology and operations management) Theres no way id be able to keep up with the advanced mathematics courses you need for engineering lmao, i barely passed statistics with a B as it is.
@kittenfarts I reported the 2.86 on my CSU mentor application, but then long beach asked for a supplemental application and my gpa was 2.95 because it included my winter intersession courses. but actually my gpa is 2.9, maybe 3.0 at the end of this semester. I know CPP isn’t really recognized for their business program, but uh idk i am still not sure about my career in general, i had to choose between finance, accounting, and management. Now that i am transferring I can focus on upper division courses and actually learn what I am going to be doing, instead of the many bullshit intro courses at community college lol. I was reading that only about 20 transfers were accepted this year for my major, which is so little lmao, either nobody wants this major or know it even exists. Idk though, i have to stay with it theres no other way.
Accepted!
Major: Sociology Emphasis in Criminology Option(Impacted)
GPA: 3.3
IGETC and Golden Four completed
Local college
my app still says ready for decisions and its just bugging me
