Hmm. Ok, I did have Astro in Winter, but I also have Stats in Winter which I thought would be enough to handle. I’ll take another look. Thanks.

I tried to mix up the type of work I had in a semester. Like a good mix of math and classes with heavy reading. For me too much of either is overload, but mixing them up kept me sane.

Yeah, but I sorta screwed up that idea when I realized I had to pass English 101 before I could take any other English classes, so now I’m playing catch up. I wont be able to drop any English courses (major prereqs), but I could push Astro to Winter. I think that’s what I’ll do.

Remember you can take astronomy P/NP assuming you haven’t used up your 14 credits. For me, three English kind of seems intense, but it depends in reading/writing load. You could always wait and drop. See how it goes.

I took 1 class P/NP and it was such a stress reliever. That’s a great idea lindy!

Uh, I have no idea what that means. Sounds awesome though. Link to info on P/NP option?

I looked it up and understand the concept now, but wouldn’t I want to use that option for a difficult class? Astro should be pretty easy to ace, and those A’s are like gold for me and law school.

You can’t take P/NP for major prep classes, but you are allowed 14 unit’s P/NP at the CCC. This is a perfect time to do it. My daughter did three classes (both her sciences) P/NP and it was just a big weight off. You can’t do it for stats.

It’s your call but if I were doing 18 units and three English, I wouldn’t think twice.

Astro is a great class to use it for. That way you can breeze through it, while putting the time and attention on your prereqs and major prep. A’s are great, but p/np does nothing to hurt your gpa. Since your gpa is already high, you’re not trying to raise it- just keep it high. It’s like gpa insurance.

You usually have 2-4 weeks into the semester to exercise that option. You can get a feel for your total course load, and decide at that point.

I couldn’t find a list of PNP eligible classes online. Do you know if one exists for LA district CC’s? Where did your daughter find the list?

My only problem (it’s an arrogant one, I know) is I could never complete a class without 100% effort, I’m just wired that way. Going into a class as PNP suggests I would do B or C work in order to focus elsewhere, and I just couldn’t do that. I couldn’t turn in a B or C level assignment without feeling like a failure (yeah, I know, I need therapy). So I’m not sure this option is valuable for me. With that said, if it was for a class I knew was going to be challenging, I would definitely consider it, but Astro is a sure thing for an A.

Edited: just saw candles post. The problem is, every A for law school is going to be huge, considering I dont expect all A’s in upper division at UCLA.

You’re grown so you’ll do what you want, but you’re not keeping focused in your goal. You’re already on the boarder with completing the 60 units, and if you have to drop a class you’ll get screwed. Or you’ll be forced to keep the class and not get an A. You need to think about it with your brain not your ego.

Astronomy can be taken P/NP. My daughter took the same class P/NP. The great thing about doing it with sciences is it fulfills IGETC without any impact on your major coursework.

Your problem is not arrogant, it’s dumb. No offense. If you were taking a class P/NP but refuse to back off slightly to put more effort in a letter grade class, that’s just not a good philosophy. So, then just don’t take it. I don’t want to go into the back and forth debate that always seem to ensue. What more do you want us to say?

Don’t take this wrong, I like you, but you have a major hand-holding issue that at age 40, you need to curtail. You aren’t going to be a good lawyer if every little thing needs to go through a group discussion and repeated, ad nauseum. I’m not sure that’s the exact point of this forum. Anyway, as you can see, it drives me bonkers. Sorry. It’s your call. We are not you. We do not know your inner workings.

I guess I’m not being articulate enough, sorry. Candles, I didn’t say I would drop it, I said I would push it to Winter, and just take it alongside my Stats class. I’m well aware that I’m at 63 units right now and can not afford to drop any classes. My point was, why would I use a PNP on Astro when it’s the easiest class in my schedule, meaning I would guarantee myself an A? And my ultimate goal is law school, so I disagree when you say I’m not focused on my goal. Every A is going to improve my chances of scholarship money for LS, which is my ultimate goal. I do not expect all As at UCLA, so why wouldn’t I want to take a sure thing now with an A in Astro?

Sorry for the confusion guys. :)

Lindy, not sure you calling me dumb is a fair response. Please try to see my logic. It’s a valid argument.

You were articulate in the first place, and I was clear on your POV. Good luck to you. I’ll take a page from @lindyk8 's book and bow out of this convo.

Wow. Ok, well thanks anyway for your advice, very appreciated. :)

I am applying to transfer this fall and I was just wondering how I need to indicate that my AP credit covers my Writing 1 credit. I took Writing 2 last year, but when I go through the application it indicates that I still have not met the requirement because I only have one writing class on my transcript.

So for those who were conversing with me a while back regarding TAP, I ended up taking the deal and joining it. I was concerned about all the extra stuff needed, but it’s really not so bad. I just have to take honors contracts to a few professors who agreed to sign it with me, and give me some extra work to do in the class. I then have to do some volunteer work, but I’m already doing that anyway, so. I have to write a couple things that I can do in my sleep. That’s it really. First TAP orientation in a couple weeks. Stoked!

Congrats fullload!

@Cayton
would you be at a disadvantage if u won’t finish two English classes until the end of winter?
