Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

I will edit the analogy re the conjoined twin UCB/UCLA mindset: they consider the others the weird relatives you only see on holidays.

Hey guys, Iā€™m going to start an outline and first draft of the two prompts this week while I have the time off. Iā€™m wondering if there are any links out there to examples of what others wrote? Maybe thereā€™s some good tutorials out there with tips on answering prompts?

Also, what is the privacy policy of these prompts? I mean, who can read them? Can the UCā€™s publish or distribute them anyway they want after submitted? I remember hearing some story a few years back of a celebrities personal essay being exposed online. I was surprised it got out, but it did. This tells me there is a measure of vulnerability in the process. Thoughts?

I donā€™t think it will get out there so donā€™t worry about that. I donā€™t know any links per se. There are a lot out there if you google. Being non-trad I assume focus on that, for one of them. Zero in on a strong element or two.

I think for us older students, showing a passion and/ or commitment to the major is even more important than for our younger counterparts. Weā€™ve had longer to figure out what we want to be when we grow up. Plus we should have had at least some paid or even unpaid work in that general area.

IMO your essay needs to better than the young people because you should have more life experiences to draw from.

I just finished drafts of both prompts, and Iā€™m happy with the results. I was hoping to compare them to others out there, thinking examples of other transfer student essays existed somewhere. Thanks guys, appreciate the help. :)

They can only be published or otherwise revealed to people other than admissions officers with your consent;

This was the link that helped me the most in writing my personal statements. It shows you good examples and other examples of what to avoid.

If you google video search for UC Essay, there is some great content out there released by the UCā€™s (primarily marketed toward CC counselors) on what the readers look for in the essays and how they score them. Long helpful videos.

Question guys - Iā€™m new to this site. I plan on applying to UCLA, UCB, UCSD, & UCSB as an economics major. However only UCSB accepts TAG applications at this point. If I fill out a TAG application for UCSB will the other UCā€™s see that I did and possibly veer away from my application, assuming that Iā€™m set on attending?

@i20hndcā€Œ

They wouldnā€™t mind at all. I doubt theyā€™ll even know.

Thanks. Iā€™m shooting for UCLA but UCSB is my fall back school and I want to guarantee some sort of acceptance if possible.

TAG where you like. It wonā€™t hurt anything. Iā€™ll bet most UCLA and Cal transfers tagged somewhere for safety. I did. I tagged Irvine, and going to UCLA.

Supposedly they donā€™t look. Thatā€™s what they say. Either way it means nothing to the others. UCLA and UCB and now UCSD would most likely expect you to TAG for safety, if nothing else. And I suspect a lot of TAGs are not followed up on after acceptance somewhere else.

Iā€™m thinking I may have packed on too many units at my CC this Fall. Iā€™m taking 18 units. The most Iā€™ve ever taken is 12, and since I have a 4.0 and found those 12 pretty easy I figured I can handle 18. Just wanted to hear everyones experience taking this many units? Was it too hard? Do you regret it?

Take a look and let me know what you think. I can always drop one and add it to Winter, Iā€™m just trying to boost my load for my UCLA applicationā€¦

Spanish 1
Eng 205
Astro. 1
English 102
English 204
Spanish Lab

What are the names of the course #s for Eng? Have you seen syllabi?

Iā€™m not sure what youā€™re asking for, Candles? I have seen the syllabi for each and though itā€™s going to be tough, itā€™s mostly writing essays on assigned literature, which Iā€™m confident with.

I donā€™t know what Eng 204 is. Iā€™m asking what the name of the class is.

Oh! My bad.

Eng. 102 = Reading/Composition II
Eng. 204 = World Lit. II
Eng. 205 = Eng. Lit. I

For me personally that would be a tough schedule because Iā€™m not a reading enthusiast nor am I a super fast reader. Iā€™ve heard Spanish 1 can be lots if work, but fortunately I was spared taking that.
