@dingko I think you need more ILR-specific stuff on your resume. I really admire all of your volunteering! Just my two cents; best of luck to you too!
@nighthawk4 Thanks! happy holidays
Applying to Cornell here to transfer! Good luck all!
@HereToTransferr You too! Want to share stats?
Applying as a freshman transfer!

Anticipated GPA: 3.65-3.8
Major: Undecided
Applying to: PAM CHE
Completed/In progress of completing all requirement courses (though may not fulfill bio lab which I will explain why to adcoms)
College EC’s
- A Policy Club working to help promote healthcare in impoverished countries.
-Enactus
-FBLA - College Art Club
High School
GPA: 3.6 UW
5 AP Classes and rest honors
High School ECS: (i’m not gong to go in depth but basically 120 hours of community service and some clubs and 4 years track/field)
SAT: 2000 (yea it’s pretty low :/)
I don’t really have much but I plan on trying to kill it with the ECS and hopefully letter of rec??
@HereToTransferr I feel you. Really try and strive for that 3.8…and ensure you’ve got some impeccable essays! (Look at me giving advice as if I’ve already been accepted lol, just sharing my two cents based on the other threads i’ve seen). Best of luck, and keep us posted!
Thanks. One course could make such a difference. Ugh and it’s for a class that does not pertain to my major but I need it for a course requirement. I plan on working really hard. Are you applying to PAM too? I feel like everyone is now…
I don’t really know yet; I’m trying to first get a general understanding of what career I’m looking for then decide which program within Cornell (Government/IR in CAS, ILR, PAM)…
Hey, guys. I am currently a freshman at a top 25 school hoping to transfer to Cornell Fall 2016. I graduated 1/480 in high school with a 4.0 UW GPA and a 4.6 weighted GPA. I am hoping to major in math and possibly art history and am looking at getting a GPA somewhere in between 3.78-4.0 after my first semester. In high school I had a lot of ECs, as I was on the exec board of 3 honor societies and VP of the debate team. So far after this first semester, I have joined around five clubs including student event committees etc. My SATs are 2170. Can anyone tell me if I seem like I am a good applicant? Oh, and my reason for transferring is a big combo of a lot of things. I do not feel very academically challenged at my current college, and I would like to go to a school better for my major. I also do not feel at home at my current university, and dislike the lack of sports/school spirit. Also, I am not able to do a double major accompanied with a minor at my school, and that is what I want to do. Thanks!!
Hello! Also planning on applying for fall 2016 transfer, I probably have some of the worst stats on this thread, but Im applying because why not
HS: horrible, wont elaborate
GPA: 2.3
ECs:
-JV & varsity soccer
-Volunteer at local animal shelter
-Worked full time my junior and senior year, probably the only notable thing on my HS record
Obviously, with these shit stats I opted for CC
CC:
Dual-track program in the social sciences and environmental science, looking to transfer as a poli sci major and declare a double major in ecology when accepted,
GPA: 3.8 ( after this semester will probably pull a 3.85)
ECs:
-Supervisor position at work 32hrs/wk
-Intern/“field operations manager” (really just an intern) at county democratic comittee 10hrs/wk
-PTK honor society
-Member of cc’s environmental conservstion club
-Published writer (county paper op-ed, twice, looking for publishing in a more prevelant text)
-Also, landed an internship with Clean Water Action for summer 2016, probably will not disclose, not a current activity
Other:
-Third-party political science/history merit award
-hispanic!
-Confident writer
My resume is pretty bare, but I pay for cc out of pocket so I need to maintain a wallet through work which leaves me with little time for much else between completing two academic programs. Ive been in touch with a Cornell admissions officer via email and Cornell appears to value work as many other ECs, but I know my cc GPA is probably about average and my ECs are numbered and not eye catching. Im hoping my hs stats will be overlooked for my high cc GPA despite a tight schedule.
@thenarddog1 Don’t be discouraged, our high school and college careers look pretty similar stat wise. (2.8 HS 3.92 College, 32 ACT) I did some more political and foreign work, and got accepted into ILR this year. I’d recommend taking the ACT to show them your accomplishment since HS.
The Spring thread really gave me some anxiety about fall admission, congrats on your admission @Wittmann!
There were people in that that thread who had some impressive resumes and academic stats who were applying for junior year, and got denied.
I’m applying for sophomore year, and I’m really afraid my high school numbers (3.2, 2180) will drown out my ECs (which to be honest they’re really good and extensive). I’m ending this semester with a 4.0, and not to sound cocky, I think I can do that again next semester. But I feel like since I’m a incoming sophomore applicant, they will still heavily consider my high school stats.
Should I wait and apply for junior year maybe? I feel like if I apply for junior year/attend starting junior year, I won’t really be able to assimilate well…
I’m thinking about transferring from a large state school with a 40-60 ranked business program. I’m currently a sophomore looking to transfer in the the school of hotel management.
College:
3.74 GPA
Major: Finance
EC’s:
Investment Club- Leadership Position
Business Fraternity: Leadership Position
Student Government
Social Fraternity
Club Sport
Experience:
Internship at Ft 500 Bank
HS:
3.6 GPA, 1860 SAT.
I’ve changed a lot since HS and am more studious now. I love my school but the reason I didn’t go to a top business school is because I wasn’t focused in HS. Now I want to go to a better school and have a clean start. Can anyone chance me?
@WolfofWallSt
I would try doing something specifically in the hospitality industry (if you want to transfer to the hotel school). The hotel school looks at fit extremely closely and likes to see more interest in hospitality, though if you can show it in your essays that could help as well. I you can show a passion for hospitality, you have a good shot.
You could also consider looking at AEM. Though to be honest I’m not sure how the merging of the Dyson school and the hotel school into the College of Business for next year will affect this (announced this morning). Though I believe that each will still function independently with more collaboration since they will be combined.

@WolfofWallSt I second @DreamingGirl on this, you need to do some sort of things that show achievement outside of school/volunteer/internship work. Something that shows independence and leadership outside of academia. Also, I recommend you take the ACT/SAT again, use your average high school record as a jumping off point to say “Hey, I know I didn’t do awesome, but in the time since then I’ve learned, grown, and look at where I am now”.
I appreciate the input! I will look into retaking the SAT’s. I am waiting to see if I get accepted into an internship at a BB bank to see if I will transfer or not. If I can get into my dream internship regardless of school then I will stay because ROI is better at my current school.
Hi everyone, I’ve been stalking this thread for awhile and I guess it’s time for me to throw my hat in the ring.
College
GPA: 3.93-4.00, not sure what it will be but i’ve gotten all A’s and possibly an A-
Major: Biology w/ chem minor, possibly trying to double major with economics or something like that
EC’s:
- Ultra Running Club
- Few Club Sports
****really lacking here I know
High School
GPA: 4.15 I think
SAT: 1380/1600
EC’s:
- Varsity Cross country/ Track
- DECA (competitive and leadership)
- A few others, I’m not really going to elaborate since it’s nothing super spectacular
So i’ll preface this with I was offered the GT options to CALS as biological sciences major. I’m currently considering a few other schools to apply to in addition to Cornell. I’m looking to transfer for a couple of reasons, namely I’d like a more entrepreneurial environment, some more research opportunities, and for the academic challenge. In the meantime good luck to everyone applying!
How strict is this chart? (Minimum requirements) https://www.engineering.cornell.edu/admissions/undergraduate/apply/transfer/upload/Guidelines-for-Prospective-Transfers_v-2.pdf
I’m looking to transfer to CS. I think I will miss a couple courses for junior standing with a 4.0 GPA. I have taken 3 Calculus courses, 2 (or 3) Calc-based Physics, 1 Chem, Discrete Math, Intro to CS, Data Structures, and other humanities.
Hi guys.I’m planning to transfer to CALS to major in AEM from a community college in NYC.
Can someone tell me if I am daydreaming, particularly as an non-traditional student?
High School: an oversea high school in Asia, GPA 3.2, graduated 9 years ago, never take SAT(waived by Cornell)
Community College GPA:3.9/4. 7 honors courses taken
Major:Business Administration
ECs:
-Paid full-time work, 40 hours / week, as a store clerk (I work in the day and go to school in the evening)
-President’s honor society
-Honors program voluntary adviser
-Participant of entrepreneurship program sponsored by New York angle investors
-Some other academic projects leader
I know AEM is a highly selective major, as CALS website shows the freshman acceptance rate is 7%,
can anyone chance me?
Hey guys, do you know for required coursework, if you can fulfill that through Ap credits?
