@HereToTransferr I think some of the prerequisites like writing or math can be filled with AP credit, but for some majors specific stuff you still have to take the intro courses (i.e. biology). There should be a list on the cornell website with more details about this
For CHE? I am applying as PAM so i’m really scared that they’re going to reject the Ap credits and penalize me because I didnt take a certain required class that could be aped out of (it’s 1 class btw)
Well this is dumb. I have a 3.2 GPA and 2180 SAT from HS with outstanding ECs, but now for my first semester in college I have a B+ on my transcript because of a professor who didn’t bother to accommodate family emergencies (internal conflict). Not gonna bother to discuss why, grades are in and it’s there to stay now. I’ve tried disputing.
Should I even bother to apply for transfer admission given the hyper-standardized nature of Ivy admissions? 3.2 is bad enough and as a sophomore candidate they consider HS pretty significantly, and now a B+ in my first semester doesn’t contribute anything.
Would anyone be willing to chance me? Most likely applying to Economics in A&S, with a minor in IR or Law and Society (still deciding).

I’m assuming admissions don’t really care about High School extracurriculars, even though I have some pretty good ones, so I’ll refrain from listing them here.
If anyone has any comments or advice, I’d greatly appreciate it!
WOW that’s amazing considering how much grade deflation Boston University has. I hope you get in!
Hey guys, I am also thinking about to transfer to Cornell. Since I didn’t know that I have to take the required classes in order to transfer in, and now it’s too late for me to register for classes. Any tips on how to change this situation?
Could you give us some more information? What are you applying for and what classes did you take?
@Transferdood Sure. I am applying for AEM and the classes I had taken in the Fall semester are: Sociology, Psychology, Applied Calculus, Music history, and English Composition. I did not have a choice to choose what courses I could take in my first semester because we had this “block shcedule” that every freshman needs to follow. (Not sure about the honors student, but I am just regular) And for next semester, I am going to take English, Micro E, Law, Communication, and Business. I am trying to change my schedule for the next semester in order to meet the requirment for AEM : Statistics and Calc I. The thing is that in order for me to take Statistics at my current school, I need to finish 2 prerequisites, which are Business and Computer Information System. I am on the wait list now for the winter session of Business Intro. And since I can take CIS and Statistics in the same semester, I think I am good as long as I get the spot in Business Intro for the winter session.
Sorry if this looks messy. I really did not know anything about this program/major until few days ago. I am definitely not well-prepared as others.
BUT if I did not get a spot for the class, then I probably should not even think about to transfer, right?
@ms9696 Based on what I’ve read, CALS is very really big on the required coursework. I would contact the admission office (which I still have to do too) about this. If you can explain your situation, maybe they can be understanding?
hmm. I find it very odd that statistics has 2 prerequisites that aren’t math related. Could you take a placement test to place into stats?
Unfortunately, without the required classes, I don’t think that you’ll be accepted especially since the AEM program is extremely competitive.
If you are dead set on Cornell, I suggest that you apply to a different department (since all majors in CALS have the same requirements)
@Transferdood Thank you for your response. The statistics in my current school is business statistics, maybe that’s why the prerequisites are not math related. I am not dead set on Cornell. But I am sure that my major is business-related. My current school is also a business school, but obviously not as prestigious as Cornell despite its location. Am I right that Arts and Sciences school has the least requirements? I
Yes, the A&S school has no transfer prerequisites, meaning that you could get in regardless of the courses you have taken. I think that you should consider the Econ major. It is easier to get into than AEM and you’ll have the similar career opportunities. Hope this helps
@Transferdood Thanks for the information!
@HereToTransferr I just e-mailed them yesterday, but the office will not be opened until January 6th.
Hey guys! All of you seem to be talented individuals, I wish you guys the best!
I’m a Freshman at Emory University and am looking to Transfer to Cornell for its Human Bio, Health, and Society major in CHE. I want to transfer to get a more public health focused major which also includes Human Biology (I’m Pre-Med). I realized I don’t want to major in a pure science (bio, chem, neuro) and want to study Public Health and hopefully go for a MD/MPH dual degree later on. The closest thing Emory has to a public health undergraduate major is a global health minor, but it doesn’t include the political and economic aspects of health care and isn’t as holistic of public health as is Cornel’s HBHS major.
I feel as though it maybe a long shot but it’s worth a try, right? haha
College GPA: 4.0 (Pre-Med Focus)
High School GPA: 3.87 (UW) 4.2 (W)
SAT: 2190 (2210 Super-score… if they even super-score lol)
Extracurriculars pretty solid
I’m nervous about my essays but hopefully they will come out fine
Recs should be on point
What do y’all think?
Hi everyone, I wish you all the best of luck! Thought I should contribute to this thread as well, also looking for some feedback!

@IBProspect123 I think you have a solid chance–considering your grades and expected ACT
I think it will all come down to your essays, though. I feel like CAS gets a bunch of kids with 3.8+ with solid extracurriculars. Good luck!
HI EVERYONE!
I am currently a student at UC San Diego pursuing a double major in Computer Science and Mathematics. I came in with 45 credits (currently a freshman but credited as a sophomore/junior) and am on track to graduate a year early but I wanted to transfer to Cornell for Computer Science.

I know my GPA is low but will my extracurriculars give me a chance (especially since I got accepted into a Software Engineering Internship at Google as a freshman)? Assuming my essays are good and my letter of rec is good what are my options?
Thank you!
Chance me please
Hello! I am also applying as a fall transfer to be going as a sophomore.
I am applying to CALS to be an environmental and sustainable science major. I am transferring because my current school doesn’t have a strong environmental program and I want to be challenged more.
High School:
GPA: 4.0
IB Diploma certificate
Some EC: varsity soccer
varsity golf
varsity track
environmental club
peer leadership
volunteer work at my library soup kitchen etc
College
GPA: 3.94
Some EC: Sierra Club
volunteering teaching soccer at local elementary schools
I know that CALS test scores are not mandatory so I’m not going to worry about those
What do you think my chances are?
Hey guys! Sophomore now but applying likely as a sophomore for next year.
Currently at NYU Tisch in the Film program and, though I’m doing well, I don’t want to go into the film industry. Plus I have a lot of issues with the program and its participants and NYU as a whole, and I’d love to really LEARN about the world and not just produce projects without real guidance. Minoring in an interdisciplinary program called Science and Society and I LOVE IT. Very interested in health and society and the life sciences in general and approaching them with an interdisciplinary and creative mindset. I do a lot of research in that area in my spare time and, as I said, really love it and finally made the decision to completely switch my career path.
College GPA: 3.85
HS GPA: 4.07 weighted, 5 APs, honestly didn’t work to my potential in HS. the college structure suits me better.
SAT: 2150; SAT II: Bio-E 760, Math I 710, 5s on AP US AP Bio
Current courses: opical Seminar: Emerging Diseases, Calc I (took in hs but didn’t take AP), History of Western Art I, The Art of Sound (film history), Pre-Production Colloquium (1 credit film)
Recs: from bio-anthro professor and editing prof, should be good, did well in both and participated and blah blah
ECs:
– Competitive Club Ultimate Frisbee Team
– Nationally Qualified 57kg weight class Powerlifter (strength sport kind of like olympic weightlifting)
– Photojournalist and Writer for The Odyssey (online newspaper, cross-college); tend to produce scientifically minded pieces i.e. the physics behind the swirls of cream in your morning coffee; exercise and the brain
– College radio host freshman year: wrote and hosted classical music show heehee
– had an internship fall semester as a production intern at a doc production company
– volunteer as an inner-city public school financial aid educator and mentor
Work: have to make money over the summer so work typical summer jobs = cashier, hostess, freelance photographer
kinda embarrassed to admit but my family is pretty tied in to Cornell; both grandparents went, uncle and cousins went, dad went grad school, and there’s a building named after my great grandpa… I’m pretty sure.
VERY CONCERNED that the film program is going to hurt me a lot… it’s very intensive and really doesn’t allow for more than one course to be taken outside Tisch per semester… I’ve taken hard, interesting courses that I;ve gotten all As in, but only have 3 real non-film courses to show (intro to sociology, Classics & Cognitive Theory, Global Biocultures: Anthropological Perspectives on Public Health)… the rest are freshman writing, film production + craft + scriptwriting + film history courses.
we shall see. BEST OF LUCK FRANDS
