^^ yep
Hi everyone! What are my chances of being admitted to UCLA?
Major: Computer Science
IGETC: Will be done by Spring 2016
Major Prerequisite: Done by Spring 2016
GPA: 3.71 rn… around 3.78 after Fall semester
EC’s: Computer Lab tutor, math lab tutor, Engineering Club, and AmeriCorps
Thanks !
@mich1122 always a good idea to look at the profile of admitted transfer students. Average GPA of students applying for that major was 3.41 and average GPA admitted was 3.88 for 2014 (2015 statistics should be coming later this year). Average GPA enrolled was 3.81 so you are going to be right there! Of course there are always outliers in statistics. Just keep doing well in your classes. You have some really good EC’s. Good luck from a transfer student that just started at UCLA!
Anyone going to the UCLA open house on Saturday? I wish UCB had one of these so I could talk to their admissions people, but I like how UCLA puts all their talents on display for the day.
@aepaige I’ll be there!! and yeah, I agree
@aepaige @themightybicycle I’ll be there as well!!
I spent my first semester of college at San Francisco State University, but I switched to a Los Angeles area CCC last semester.
My main concern is whether to apply as a Bus/Econ major (preferred) or as a general Economics major. Does anybody know if one is less competitive than the other?
AND YES, I realize both choices are less than ideal…but unfortunately that is what I am truly passionate/interested in…
As of now, I have a 3.8 GPA (cumulative) and if all goes as planned, will have a 3.86-89 by December.
Some of my college extracurriculars include–
-position in (CCC) student government: Senator of Business
-member of Alpha Gamma Delta (SFSU): sorority, required to participate in philanthropic activities
-member of Alpha Gamma Sigma: (CCC) academic honor society, community service organization
-member of (CCC) Environmental Club: concerned with sustainability within the school and community
-volunteer work for Hillary Clinton Political Campaign: fundraising event scheduled for the near future
-equestrian show-jumping: national and international competitions from 9th grade-current. in high school was doing 5hrs a day, 6 days a week (x4 years), but due to a switch in focus towards academics am no longer putting in the same amount of time (aka very infrequent)
-internship Accounting: bookkeeping and financial statement analysis
-internship Marketing Strategies: ensure growth and success
Hi guys,
(I posted a little bit back, psych major)
I’ll be at the open house tomorrow too! I just found out they actually have a transfer specific open house Oct. 10
I was wondering if any of you were going to dorm or live in the ucla apartments off campus?
I live in Santa Monica with my parents but I really think it’s time that I move out and get that real college experience. I was wondering if you guys had heard anything about the off campus apartments? I’ve heard mixed things, some say they’re good and others say it’s better to find an apartment on your own.
Open House check
I will be going to the transfer event on October 12th as well!
@GirlPower1 I’m in the same situation as you… in desperate need of getting away from my parents. Although I am unsure about living situations at UCLA specifically, I DO have experience with on-campus living at a different college. It sucked-- over $1500 a month for a shitty 2 bedroom… 3 roommates, no dishwasher, a required meal plan that I never used, problems with plumbing/mold/electricity, etc. In my opinion, it would be exponentially better (and maybe even cheaper, considering not receiving a meal plan) to get an apartment separate from the campus with a roommate(s).
Who knows? Maybe this time around, I’ll actually have a dishwasher
@sutt123 I actually asked a couple of the transfer students at the open house about this, at the transfer panel all 4 of them said they lived in the dorms their first transfer year and would highly recommend it because it was so much easier to acclimate to the environment and they met a lot of people. One of them is living in the UCLA owned off campus apartments this year and he said it’s an adjustment but he likes that as well. At this point I think if I got enough financial aid/ a scholarship I would definitely live on campus~
@GirlPower1 I’ve heard that many transfers regret living in the dorms (at least at Cal, I don’t know about UCLA, it’s quite possible that it’s set up differently at UCLA) because they live with or near freshman students, and there’s a large age barrier.
-Major: Political Science, possibly minor in English.
-UC GPA: 4.0
-Major GPA: 4.0
-IGETC & Prereqs will be done by Spring 2016.
-Honors student, speaks 3 languages, first generation American, comes from a family with political background.
-ECs: Member of 2 cc honors society, PTK and AGS, that does community service every week, ran marathons for cancer research in the pasts, volunteered for children with cancer/charity organization, music producer, used to do concerts. English tutor to foreign students.
-Awards: 2 president’s list, 2 computer awards, 2 marathon certificates
Personal statement: Basically I escaped war from Syria to achieve my educational and career goals in the U.S.
-Career goal: become a diplomat/ambassador representing the U.S. in the middle east.
Please any comments, advice or evaluation of my stats is appreciated!
@Sammysaad I’m sure you’ll get in. You’re the type of applicant that has a serious shot for the Regents scholarship, in my opinion.
There’s no way you’re not getting in, @Sammysaad.
@goldencub There are transfer specific dorms/apartments. Although the transfers I spoke to said they did not live in the transfer dorms and opted for the random roommate/random dorm option
@GirlPower1 Ahh, interesting. I should pay UCLA a visit, I hardly remember what it’s like.
I’m lucky to be in the transfer housing, and I really, really love it!
UC to UC transfer! (UCSB)
-Major: Psychology
-GPA: 3.70 cummulative
-Major PreReqs: pretty much done
-GE: will be completed by spring
-EC: job over the summer, one club, EOP
-Awards/Honors: Dean’s honors, UCSB Honor program
-Essays: working on it…
-Reason for transfer: want to pursue a health profession which UCSB does not have much resource for experience.
Do you guys think I have a chance?
@infinitize I think you have a tiny bit above average chance. You are well rounded, something they like, but your GPA is not high enough for Psych. You can check last year’s average admit rate for Psych.
Also is anyone planning on taking the Transfer summer course?
@infinitize I think you have a good chance. Try to bring your GPA up this term, if you can.
Question: does the provisional contract include winter quarter grades, for those who are on the quarter system?
I am a sophmore at SMC and doing business econ(business admin for uci). I currently have a 4.0 but still have a few difficult classes to do. I am also in the scholars program. I have to finish calculus 2 by spring 2015 but I dont think that can happen. I am currently in pre calculus. I can do calc in winter and calc 2 in the spring but I wasn’t even able to do pre calc in the summer and had to take a W. If I am only missing 1 class am I screwed? Say I get accepted on the basis that I agree to finish calc 2 by spring 2016, is there anyway to work anything out with the school?
