FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

Accidentally double-posted - ignore this please!

You guys!! Getting so antsy! Can’t they just rip the band-aid off and let us know our futures already? What exactly does “late april” mean? Haha

They usually release decisions on fridays so I am guessing it would be either the 22nd or the 29th of April.

My brother applied here, but I don’t know what his chances are based on his GPA and the no ECs thing. But after talking to a UCLA representative at STOMP last year, it sounds like, because Japanese isn’t one of the 12 Majors Everyone Applies For, and the fact that they throw out any unfavorable grades that were replaced on your IGETC by another class, he might have a chance.

Major: Japanese B.A.
UC GPA: 2.5 (3.2 with grade removal as mentioned above)
EC: None.
IGETC: Completed by the end of this semester.
Pre-requisites: There aren’t any. It just says “End of Major,” lmao.
Essays: 8/10.

@boxandwhiskers I was thinking of UCSB. Their transfer and freshman admissions decisions start coming out the same day. So sorry! This waiting game is the worst but so exciting.

Hey, guys!

I’m here on campus and I can confirm they are looking at transfer applicants right now. I was giving a campus tour yesterday to some international students and we stopped by the admissions office. One of the admission reps, along with other people I’ve never met before came out of an office, greeted the international students, and said, “We are taking a break from reading all these transfer applications”.

I am on campus now. Although the admissions office is closed to the public today, I still am able to walk in because I work through them. It’s so quiet in there, the reps are really reading those applications.

Hang tight! Decisions are right around the corner!

@UCLAFFF Wow do you know exactly what date they would announce the admission decisions?

@A111777

No, they don’t tell us anything too revealing, lol. But if I could predict, it’d be consistent with whatever time frame UCLA has given you.

For what it’s worth, my decision was given to me last year on the 22nd of April.

Every year UCLA sends out their acceptances a week before Cal which are both on Fridays. Cal usually sends out on the last friday of april and ucla on the second to last. Cal confirmed that decision day is 4/29 so I am 99% sure it will be 4/22. There is a possibility of them being released earlier than expected since last year decisions were released 4/17, but i doubt it. This would make 4/15 a second but unlikely possibility

@altavista Hey there, communication major as well. We pretty much have the same stats

California Community College, 4.0 GPA, missing intro to lingustics, ECs, volunteers and essays are ok, nothing too impressive. Not TAP certified either. So, why don’t we get in together? lol

Wow it’s like we’re the same person :stuck_out_tongue: I’m rooting for ya!

I’m a Comm major too, but my alt is Gender Studies!

3.7 GPA; 5/7 prereqs; but hopefully they see that I have two A.A’s and am TAP certified (although it doesn’t hold much weight for impacted majors). My main EC is being an editor for the school newspaper and working part-time.

I’m just thankful that my GPA is the minimum to get considered. But I don’t even know why that’s the benchmark, because they seem to only admit 3.8+.

I didn’t even know about all the requirements until I applied, because I didn’t decide to major in Comm until last fall! But good luck to all Comm applicants, we really should have our own thread because there’s so many of us lol.

From: Coastline Community College
UC GPA: 2.56
Major: Japanese B.A. (with a Minor in Education Studies)
Second Choice: Linguistics and Asian Languages and Cultures B.A. (with a Minor in Language Teaching)
IGETC: Done
Pre-Requisites: There aren’t any articulated prereqs for my chosen majors.
Accepted to: CSU Long Beach, CSU Los Angeles, San Jose State University, and CSU Fresno.
Applied to: UC Davis, UC San Diego, UC Los Angeles, and UC Riverside.
Rejected by: N/A

I doubt this is happening, given my GPA, but one of the undergraduate advisers at UCLA told me that I have a much better shot because I’m not applying to one of the twelve most-applied-to majors at their university.

Does anyone know when decisions come out?

Decisions should come out in late April, probably the second the last Friday (I’ve heard rumors about that on this site)

@041191
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you won’t get into UCLA with that GPA. That GPA is simply too low.

https://www.admission.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/tradms.htm

^^This says you need at least a 3.2 to be considered for admission to UCLA. That undergraduate adviser didn’t know what they were talking about. Sorry.

@Cayton Although I got in below the GPA requirement, I too do agree that a 2.5 GPA is too low for admission to UCLA. However, the UCLA advisor was right in saying their chances of getting in are better with those major choices.

Does anybody know if the Sociology program is impacted?

@bonjouruc2016 Yes, it is.

First off, thank you for creating this thread! I know its difficult to chance someone but please let me know your opinion anyhow. Im applying as a music history major. I’m tap certified at a 3.3gpa. Worked all throughout college supporting my family. Excellent personal statements.
Music history is one the least impacted majors at Ucla. I believe last year 20 applied 12 got in. Will my tap certification give me a good shot of getting in? Thanks guys!!!

Let me know what my chances are, if you feel so compelled.

Major: Psychology
IGETC: Complete by end of spring.
Major preparation: Complete by end of spring (I have 3/5 done and am taking the remaining 2/5 right now).
GPA: 3.92
EC’s: none
Personal Statements: pretty good
Transferring from: CCC
Will have 67 units by end of spring.
All required math and english classes were completed by fall 2015.

My GPA would be a 4.0 if it wasn’t for one B I got in psych 101 during my first semester (I could have tried harder in that class).

My biggest concern is that I have a gap in education between my first and second semester of college. The gap lasted a year. UCLA emailed me in February asking for an explanation and I responded immediately with a legitimate reason.

Thanks for your time.
