FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

What do you mean by GPA manipulation, is it bad to take a lot of classes to have a higher, more competitive GPA?

I meant like if someone is consistently taking classes for P/NP, dropping classes, etc. then its unsurprising that they would have a good gpa, Haas takes that into consideration. I dont think taking more classes is bad tho so youre fine.

Hi, I’ve been following cc threads for almost two years now and I’m finally applying this fall.

@VeniVidiVici1 here are UCLA’s stats https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof14_mjr.htm#PW

You look really good for the psych major!

@luckie1367 Thanks :slight_smile:

I am an international student.
Major: Business Economics
GPA: 3.93 with one B non-major and a W on Calculus (retaking it this fall)
Classes: All completed by Spring
ECs: Marketing Club, International Student Volunteer, and worked at a restaurant as cashier and server.

I am international student as well, my major is Economics and my GPA is 3.93 until now. I have finished all major requirements. Anyone Econ ?

@Hardworker223 sounds like 23 units would be doable given your history. My husband also was doing 19.75 quarter units with comp programming, chem, physics, and calc while working 20+ hours a week, with three little ones for the last year and a half. It’s possible, Good luck!

I also wanted to add his info, just going to copy and paste because I’m lazy. UCLA and Cal are the ones he’s aiming for. fingers crossed

Major: Mechanical Engineering
GPA: 3.97
Major GPA: 3.99 (he got a B in his 3rd programming class while taking 19.75 units and working)
IGETC: will be done this spring
Pre-reqs: all that articulate according to assist will be done this spring
EC: full time summer job, part time job during school year, TRiO peer mentor, math/science tutor, volunteer at bilingual elementary school, blood drives, and Christmas cheer, math club

Additional info: first generation high school graduate and college student, three young children, migrated to US as a child (soon to be US citizen)

Also applying to: Cal, UCI, UCD, UCSD

I think he’ll get in, @sugarbabies3.

Thanks @cayton it’s good to hear from you again, it’s crazy it’s already been a year since I messaged you last!

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting in CC but I’ve followed some of the threads.

Major: Psych (i want to eventually specialize in domestic violence and sexual assault therapy)
GPA: 4.0
Major GPA: 4.0
APs: 1 AP score of 4 (psych) and 1 score of 5 (english lang lit)
IGETC: Last 2 classes will be done by the end of this fall semester
TAP: last 2 scholar classes will be done by this fall semester as well
Pre-reqs: completed
EC: 2 part time jobs (I just left one in order to commit more to the other), volunteer work with my local domestic violence shelter (so far I’ve volunteered 60 hours), for a couple months last semester I helped the therapist at my elementary school with weekly meetings.
–> In highschool: I was training full time as a figure skater, had an online business, volunteered at UCLA hospital, part time job

In the spring I will be taking 3 psychology classes since I will be done with all my pre-reqs and IGETC

Overall, I’m really scared about applying to UCLA this fall, my biggest fear is not getting in as a psych major and getting in as my alternate major/minor (Gender Studies)

@GirlPower1 fellow psych major here (now at UCLA). You’ve got an excellent shot.

Here are UCLA’s stats for last year https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof14_mjr.htm#PW

@hardworker223 I’m also interested in UCLA BizEcon or Econ. I’m going to TAG to either Davis or SB. Why did you choose Davis as a tag? And are you applying for Econ or Managerial Econ?

I posted this in the UC Berkeley 2016 thread but UCLA is my close second choice.

I got admitted in to a few universities last year (USC, Pepperdine, UCSC, etc), but I am opting to take a shot at my dream of attending Berkeley and stay at CCC another year. I didn’t apply last year because I was missing Calc I/Calc II. The reason I was admitted to the others (USC, etc) was because Business Calc articulates over for them.

Major: BizEcon
ASSIST GPA: 3.81 (currently a 3.80 but with an A in Calc I I’ll be at a 3.81)
Overall GPA: 3.85
Major GPA: 3.6 (because of English 1B C, but A’s in Econ 1/2 Acc 1/2)
IGETC: Done
Pre-reqs: Calc I in Fall 2015, Calc II will be done Spring 2016

EC: here is where I hope admissions will see through my low GPA. I’ve been a Youtube content creator since I was 14 years old (2008) that has amassed 50,000 subscribers and 40 million video views. I also own a website with 100k users, where I have big name clients including Red Bull, Office Max, etc. I worked as a social media marketing executive full time (took gap year) for a software company in the Bay area (CEO found my videos on Youtube and sent me a job offer when I was attending CCC so I took the gap year and was blessed for the opportunity).

Additional Info: First gen college student, some setbacks I plan to write about, upward A trend for two years.
Weakness: Workload is only Calc I and Calc II in Fall/Spring. When I took the full time job position English 1B grade slipped(got a C). I’ve taken a 20 unit semester and pulled off a 4.0 so hopefully they see that I can handle a full time schedule. Also, I’ve been at CCC since 2012 but I did take ~1 year for work.

Applying to: UCB, UCLA, UCD, UCSD, UCSB
TAG to: UCD

I’m hoping English 1B grade will not have me rejected automatically…What do you guys think? Fortunately English 1B is not a major pre-req for Cal and thus my major GPA is 4.0 for them.

Good luck to everyone!!!

@luckie1367 Thanks, that makes me feel a little better.
Are you starting UCLA in the fall or have you been taking classes there already? What is it like, in regards to competitiveness and how hard it is.

@GirlPower1 I’m currently taking 100A over the summer (you have to take 100A and 100B before you are an official psych major, until then you are considered pre-psych).

So far its okay, the pace is much quicker, but I’ve already taken a stats class, so I have an idea of what we are doing. Everyone I’ve met so far has been super nice though!

Also, @LuckyName is a UCLA psych major as well. She is actually in 100A too! Hopefully she can give you another POV.

@luckie1367 I didin’t know i would have to take more statistics classes. I just finished Statistics xl10 with Ucla extension this past winter. Good to hear that it’s not unbearable

Yep, if you google ucla psych 100A you can read about it.

@luckie1367 he* :stuck_out_tongue:
