FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

OOOPS @LuckyName dude, my bad!! Sorry!

@luckie1367 haha, all cool! I’ve done that before. For a long time I thought 2016Candles was a boy, haha

@LuckyName I thought you were female, too. And I think they’re all guys up here (default position). :-?

Time flies, @sugarbabies3!

Hi I’m an Anthro major. I just got one B in a major class cultural anthro (bc I was misread the syllabus and missed assignment due dates). would that affect me a lot, since the major only has 3 pre reqs…I currently have an overall gpa of 3.75 (with the anthro class that I got a B in).

@uclabruin96 Doubt it. The 2014 average admitted GPA for Anthro majors was 3.54 (B.A.) / 3.49 (B.S.)

You’re at a 3.75 right now and it’s only going to increase, assuming you get more A’s during your final year. Also, I don’t think Anthro is impacted, which makes your chances even better. I’m sure you’re fine.

@uclabruin96 The avg. admitted GPA for Anthro was a 3.54 (Fall 2014), and 65.75% of the applicants were accepted. I think you still have a solid chance!

@jonuni94 I have to say that you are pretty amazing in terms of your resume. However, your gpa may be beat out by others applying to that same major.This is no way to discourage you because anything goes lol.

@LuckyName and @LopApo

Thank you very much!! except now I just found out I have another B in Physical Anthro, I seriously calculated the grade and I was at an A but somehow I have a B there must be something I guess, so I’m at a 3.66 overall and major gpa of 3.50. Would that be really bad then? even if Anthro is not impacted and everything. I’m really sorry for making you guys spend time on this I’m just really scared

@uclabruin96 Your fall semester grades will be considered. Just make sure you score as many A’s as you can. You want to look as competitive as you can.

@jonuni94 I am tagging to UC Davis as a managerial Econ major because I live in Davis. I have a 3.9 gpa and I am done with all the pre reqs for ucla/ucberkeley HAAS.

Do you guys know if the UCs look at my major gpa or my overall transfer gpa. I ask this because I got two B’s in random classes when I was 12. (18 atm). Should I explain this in my application? Besides this, I have a 4.0 major gpa and I wrote my essays and I self rated them 8-9/10. I’m so nervous…! I hope it’s not like senior year all over again. (Bombarded with rejections) :frowning:

@Hardworker223 UCLA does look at major GPA as well as cumulative. But don’t worry about your two Bs. You’re totally fine! :slight_smile:

@lindyk8 I appreciate your feedback and your guidence for many users including my self. It’s nice to have a community of potential transfers guide each other through this stressful, yet exhilarating process. Is your daughter enjoying UCLA? What is her major?

@Hardworker223 she switched over to Berkeley from UCLA (reapplied). Long story but she’s happy she’s closer to home. Starting this fall. She just got the final course she wanted today during phase 2 sign-up. Thx for asking - and for the kind words.

Your GPA is excellent. You should have no troubles. What’s your major?

College courses at 12! I see…
=D>

@Hardworker223 Wait, what? You took a college course at 12 years old? You weren’t even a teenager! O_o

@Franchman Appreciate the help, I’m hoping that UCLA doesn’t just auto toss my app because of the GPA.

@hardworker223 Great GPA! You have a VERY good shot. I might TAG as Econ and then minor in stats, or do managerial Econ. Still unsure which… but I heard that since Econ doesn’t require as many classes as managerial econ that you could minor in something else. How do you like Davis? I’m about 90 mins away… I hear UC Davis is a super nice college town, but is the heat that bad? I see 108F for this Wednesday!

Hi everyone! It’s surreal that I’m finally posting on college confidential. Can’t believe the time for us has finally come to apply! Would someone chance me please?!

Guys, i’m so SO nervous. This is literally all I have been thinking about since senior year when I decided to go to CC to pursue my dream schools (UCLA and Cal). I’m quite excited to start the admissions process (t-3 days) and best of luck to all of us hopefuls!! Let’s go class of 2018 :slight_smile:

@themightybicycle I’m sure you’ll get in. I’m similarly nervous, even though I should get in. I’m going to be a nervous wreck by the time April comes around.

Side note, I thought that Med schools don’t allow AP credit used as course credit?

first time posting haha but i want to be part of this. i get a sense of relief knowing there are other people stressing out about this as much as i am.

Major: Psychology-Pre/Pre-Med( not that it matters really)
GPA: 4.0
Major GPA: 4.0 ( for the time being… hopefully my philosophy class in spring doesnt ruin it haha)
IGETC: Will complete it in spring
Pre-Reqs: Done only for UCLA. Missing about 4 for UCSD and 1 for UCSB witch I’m tagging to.
TAP: nah
ECs; Phi Theta Kappa, I volunteer every saturday for my local hospital and i am part of the schools engineering club.
Awards: deans list if that counts or anything haha

side question: How heavily is TAP weighed in the admissions decisions? Also i have a pretty heavy course load this fall and spring as I will only have 31 units completed by the end of my summer session. Does having less pre reqs completed by fall make me less competitive? thanks in advance to anyone who answers my questions
