Fall 2017 admits to Minnesota?

@Seacoast my daughter applied 10/29 and received an email notification of her acceptance 11/24.

Wow 36 ACT and rejected from Purdue? To me that just shows he has huge upside and potential or he just tests well. Did he have an extra difficult course load to have the 3.3 GPA? That is the killer for him, at least what I am seeing on all of these blogs. Mid-October you probably will hear by January. I would count on anything earlier. Even though they are rolling they had a huge push with all the EA out there so MN got thrown in and it’s a huge school so I think they are going through the apps as quickly as they can. Did he do AP and honors?

@oliver17 he will end up where he is supposed to. I watched my parents go through it last year with my brother. My brother ended up where he wanted to be and they stressed. It will be ok.

@oliver17 if your son applied to CSE there is good reason to hope! Last year there was another young man with a similar UW GPA and a 35 ACT. He was accepted but the decision came out pretty late (he applied in the summer so was probably one of the first applications in). Turns out he also got into Purdue and that’s where he matriculated but again CS not engineering. I think in his case his junior year grades were excellent - had sports injuries earlier in his high school career which kept his grades down at first. With the lower GPA it’s really important for those grades to show improvement by junior year.

@oliver17 forgot to add that NMF is a serious hook at UMN. Good luck to him!

I applied in September and sent my transcript later in October. I was admitted mid-November, and just yesterday got the letter for the honors program (CLA).

35 ACT
4.7 weighted GPA
9 AP classes throughout high school
music, dance, theatre, NHS, & volunteering as extracurriculars.

Best of luck!

@oliver17 Seems like I’m in the same situation as your son, I have a 3.3 yet a 35 on the ACT too. I am confident we’ll both end up in the right place though

@grevans1679 are you an engineering major as well? Where else did you apply?

Got in today. College of Science and Engineering. Washington state resident
3.918 UW GPA
1430 SAT
30 ACT
Swim Captain 1 year, varsity 4 years, FIRST Robotics and XC for 1 year, NHS, National Merit Commended (don’t think I included this on my application because I found out after I sent it in), some other unimportant EC’s
Tough junior year schedule, moderate-tough senior year schedule (looks harder than it actually is)

Does anyone know the average time it takes for them to make a decision? Like some schools takes 2-4 weeks, some 6-8, is there a timeframe or an average? My status box says it’s rolling so I was just wondering

There is no average timeframe. It all depends on how strong your application is. They roll out acceptances beginning with the strongest applications and the standards are different depending on the admitting college. If you are still on hold, it might be because they are waiting to see how admissions are looking for your first choice of college before making a final decision on your application. If you are an obvious admit for that college, they will admit you quick, regardless of when you apply.

If you submitted by 11/1, you will hear something by Jan. 31st.

@oliver17 I am applying for Psychology at UMN. I am already into U Iowa, and two UK schools (Aberdeen and City University of London). Other than that, I am applying to USD, NYU, Notre Dame, Fordham, Syracuse, Colorado College, U St Andrews, U Edinburgh, and Kings College.

I think they are hitting the applicants that applied third week in October right now. I heard last week and I was tracking the timeframe hoping to hear and I did. Good Luck all! @grevans1679 did you do EA all? Well, Notre Dame would be ED or did you do all RD??

@amarz12 I applied October 22 and hear last Saturday, they are running true to that timeframe so I would guess 5 weeks or so maybe 6 the closer it got to the deadline for early decisions. Rolling means just that they could pass you up if you don’t have high enough grades or stats or EC’s or whatever they are looking for.
I shouldn’t be too long! Good luck
