Anyone have advice on how quickly fall freshman courses are expected to fill up?
My d is a chem Major
She plans to do the online orientation last week of May
Too late?
I don’t think that’s too late.
My D waited to register for classes until after she had her senior AP exam scores and went to Pittstart in July (where they used to register for classes in previous years). Pittstart has been discontinued this year I think.
Her advisor should be reaching out to her. There are lots of sections of Gen chem 1 and 2 because of the high number of students in Arts and Science at Pitt. Pre-med and other science majors all have to take it.
@mommdc thanks!
Since online orientation is new this year, and orientation access just opened 5/15, seems all may happen earlier. That’s a bit stressful but good to know there are lots of courses offered
Her advisor did just email, and when asked said most courses close in mid June !
Since this is first time I’m skeptical?
And as AP exam grades come in July, how can we register by mid June?
Ugh. I’ll have her ask her advisor but this sounds like it’s going to be confusing
I mean she asked and he says mid June. Now she has to ask but wait, what about AP Exam?
Can’t register until she knows her AP Exam right?
She can register in May and then change her schedule later if necessary. I wouldn’t worry too much.
She can start with math like Calc 1, English Comp, a humanities class and General Chemistry with lab.
She will need a score of 4 or 5 on AP exams to get credit in most cases.
She can register for a class and if she later finds out she doesn’t need to take it, can drop it and register for another class.
@mommdc thanks, very helpful info!
