Fall of 2017/ Transfer UF

Major: Public Relations (College of Journalism)
GPA: 3.47 (excluding 5 classes in progress)
Term Applied: Fall 2017

Any info or advice that would help put me at ease is welcomed. Thanks!

@madecho when did you apply?

I was accepted last week, too! (CJC).

@arkansas303 omg that’s awesome! Congrats! What’s your specialization, if any? Mine is Sports Media.

Major: environmental engineering
Overall gpa: 3.78 (3 prereqs I’m taking now and I’m take my last 1 during summer A)
term applied to: originally summer B but got switched to Fall 2017
transferring from UNF

I have heard engineering takes a while, but I applied back in December (everything was received by January 17th) and I still haven’t received a response yet. Is this normal? because the majority of students seem to have already been accepted on this thread.

@banduf so you technically have 4 prereqs “in progress”, but how many total do you need in order to transfer? UF strongly suggests having at least half of your prereqs completed before applying.

@IWantUF87 yeah I have 4 in progress. I have heard that I should have half of my prereqs completed as well, but I have also been told that as long as I will have them completed by the time I start I should be okay (which I will). Also, if it was the prereqs holding me back from getting an acceptance I would have expected a denial already. IDK if they are waiting for my fall grades to come out or if they are waiting on something else. The director of admissions has emailed me for my unofficial transcripts and I have talked to the director of advising who allowed me to move my application to fall. I just don’t know what the hold up is, what do you think?

@IWantUF87 I meant spring grades, sorry

@IWantUF87 Thank you! I’m so excited. My major is Public Relations.

@banduf have you emailed or called the college (not admissions) & asked them how long it typically takes to get a decision? I was constantly communicating with the Journalism college during the application process. Lol

@arkansas303 I’m excited too! I already live in Gainesville and was dreading the thought of having to move to Orlando to go to UCF if UF rejected me lol

I’m sending it out this week!

@IWantUF87 Sorry I wasn’t more clear, but everyone I have talked to was from the college of engineering and they handle my admissions directly. I did email to ask about when I should be expecting a decision and I did not get a response. I didn’t want to bother the engineering admissions so I didn’t ask anymore. lol

@IWantUF87 my major public relations is in the college of journalism as well… and like you said earlier I know they accept based on a space available basis. How do you think my chances of getting in too are looking?

@madecho It all depends on the competitiveness of the applicant pool in your program. If you have a competitive application, they won’t hesitate in making a decision. It took my adviser only a few hours lol

Also, with transfers, UF tends to take a holistic approach in reviewing applications. It’s NOT just about your GPA. I am not sure why people say that it is. They take into account every part of your application. For instance, I work with a girl who got accepted into UF’s Wildlife Ecology program a few weeks ago. Her GPA is barely a 3.0 (by this, I mean just scraping 2.9 lol), but she has about four years of hands on experience working with animals on a farm. I am sure that played a large part in her admissions decision. It shows that she is serious about pursuing that career. Does that make any sense? lol

@banduf Oh, I had no qualms about harassing them lol I think I sent about two emails to the CJC and called once…all within a couple weeks. The phone call gave me the answer I was looking for! They told me exactly when they would be done reviewing and making admissions decisions.

@IWantUF87 yes it does! Makes me feel much better. My GPA could be better of course, but I do have actual work and experience to show. How long did it take for you to get a final decision after you sent you app in?

@madecho Mine took FOREVER. Lol I applied at the end of August & it wasn’t referred to the CJC until January. I kept contacting them to see what the hold up was. When I called at the beginning of this month, an adviser at the CJC said they were behind on reviewing applications for Fall 2017 and that they should be done reviewing applications no later than the end of this month. A week later, I was accepted! On my birthday, too!

@IWantUF87 lol that’s the best birthday gift ever!

@rangel8039 were you missing anything on your application or is it harder to get accepted right now for political science?
