Fall Pass Times?

I just set up my ucsb u-mail, and recieved an email regarding Fall Pass times, which I have no idea what those are. It says that these pass times are available in gold. The email reads..

Pass times for Fall 2010 are now available in GOLD. To view your pass
times, log in to GOLD and click on "Registration Info." Please note
that students may register for a maximum of 13.5 units during Pass 1
and 19.0 units during Pass 2.

It says units so im imagining that these pass times have to do with singing up for classes. But what is the difference for signing up for GOLD or anything else.? Can anyone shine some light on on this? Thanks

You sign up for all classes and make alterations to your class schedules on Gold at https://my.sa.ucsb.edu/gold/</a> during your pass time. The pass time for people differs depending on whether you’re an honor student or your current class standing(freshman, sophomore, etc). You can browse all the courses available for the fall quarter by going through the find course link on the left hand column.

Most people have three separate pass time during which one can register for their classes for the following quarter. Since you’re a first year student, you won’t have pass 1 time during your first fall quarter. Your pass 2 will open conveniently on the last day of your orientation, and pass 3 will be right before the start of the quarter.

So we go to orientation, and then we choose classes there or do we come back home and do it online?

Any tips for choosing classes?

you choose your classes during orientation; your group leader will teach you how to do that. tips for choosing classes: get 2 major courses and 1 ge course

depends on your major…

3 courses?? no such luck for engineers, for example.

Three classes a semester, thats it? can you pick more classes than that, what are the benefits to taking as many classes as possible you’re first year?

Sorry for the thread take over, but I have some more questions.=P

When do we sign up for orientation? Does this mean it is best to get the earliest orientation time? Also, are upper division classes easier to get in? I’m math major and I finished my underdivision in high school.

according to the orientation website, you get the same chances regardless of which orientation session you attend. i noticed that, at the end of the spring quarter during fall pass times, on the GOLD system they hold a lot of spaces in lower-division classes (so the current students can’t take all of the spots) and open up equal numbers of spaces for each orientation session.

you can take more than 3 classes per quarter, but they recommend you take 3 your first quarter so you can get used to the system before taking a heavy courseload. your pass time starts during the orientation and it remains open for 72 hours or something, so when you get home you can also make changes to your schedule.

the only benefit of taking many classes that i can think of is just that you can feel safer about graduating on time lol.

Well I think I have to take more than 3 classes a quarter since I got into the College of Creative Studies and each semester I have to take 3 classes with them plus I have to complete my GEs and also my other major classes. I’m thinking of 4 math classes (3 from CCS), one physics class from CCS, and Writing 2

Would this be too intense?

for a total of 6?
you will die

I’m taking 6 classes this quarter. I’m dying…(I missed the drop deadline lol)

Well 4 of them don’t have grades attached and I already know the material for 3 of them
