fall schedule???

I want to transfer in a year to a 4yr college. How is this course load for my first semester of cc.

General Chemisrty
General Biology
Pre-Calculus
Technical & business communication

Anyother courses that you guys recommend. I'm taking 1semester of freshman english as a summer course right now.

Future major:biomed engr.
THANKS.

Thats a pretty good course load... however I would eliminate the technical & business communication and take and English or something more gen ed.

technical and business communication is a replacement for second semester of freshman english. The collge that i am planning on transferring Texas A&M, indicates that course should be taken instead of 2semester of fshmn english. i dont have much shot at UT austin so i don't plan to transfer there.

If your intended college suggests the course, then definitely go ahead with it. However, I agree with ixjunitxi that it seems to be an odd choice under normal circumstances. Is it like a business and technical /writing/ course? Or is it more of a business course? Maybe it's just an odd name...

Do you intend to be full-time at Texas A&M? If so, do they require four or five courses a semester in order to be full-time? If they require five and it won't overload your credits too much (I don't know if you have labs that count as extra), you might want to add another to show you can handle their workload.

yes i plan to be full time, the labs are included with the course. those four courses are 14 credits.

Ah, okay. Some places like to see 15 credits, but if you have labs involved, your schedule should definitely work out. Good choices!

don't take Technical & business communication. and haven't you taken pre-calc before? seems like a waste to take that too..

i just graduated high school. The math placement test put me in pre-cal. Lets hope my ap calculus score is atleast a 3, then i can take calculus II.

It's usually best to go with what the placement test tells you. It's likely that the pre-calc course at your college is more advanced or contains different content than the one you took in high school. However, at least at my college, if you get through the first couple of weeks and they determine you're definitely in the wrong course, they can move you.

the calculus results come in july. I personally don't want to go back to pre-cal, waste of time. I'm hoping for a 4.

No, I get what you're saying. I'm just saying their pre-calc might be different than what you're expecting. Maybe request a copy of the syllabus and compare?

My CC also does math placement by SAT scores...is that an option for you?

no, they just have a placement test for math, reading and writing.

i didn't remember anything from pre-calc and did just fine in calc.
just requires some extra work, that's all.

the_aspirant: The problem is, at most community colleges (and I imagine others?), you can't just pick a math class and try it out. You have to go where they place you. So even though ballin might very well be able to handle calc, he/she is kinda stuck with their placement.

I agree it looks like a good schedule.

Tech and Bus comm, btw, can be a very useful course IRL. And, with your school recommending it, it is a good choice.

I had about the same scheduel as you, gen chem1, gen bio1, precalc, but I took history.. lol my placement said I should take elementary algebra... yet i aced precalc? who knows. don't listen to the placements and take whatever you want.

what was your major?
