Fall Start at one school or Jan Start at another???????

So as decisions come through, it seems my top choices (of the ones i've heard from) are Bates and Hamilton....

Bates is offering Fall Admissions and Hamilton is offering January Admissions with a fall semester at NYU London....

What one is the better option?!?!?! Is Hamilton worth the lost semester???

Can you explain your situation a litte more? I’m a little hazy as to what Hamilton is offering you. Often, spring admission is offered to slightly weaker candidates as they don’t have to include those kids’ stats in their admitted profile. But it seems like Hamilton is offering you an interesting opportunity, so I’m confused.

I guess it depends also on how much you like the two schools. IMHO, I think I’d prefer Bates over Hamilton, anyway. (I think of Hamilton as more of a Greek-life type place.)

If you haven’t, try to visit both and see which you like better. If you really like one over the other the I don’t think the Jan. start is that big of a deal.

I would (and might actually) choose Bates because you’re a freshman only ones and it would suck to miss 1st semester and have to make friends when everyone already knows everyone

the Fall first semester freshman experience is very special in college and should not be missed

Well, Hamilton’s jan start is said to be for housing purposes and the fall semester abroad is actually spent with 30ish other Hamilton students in the same situation so you are by no means alone in the process.

Yes, but you’ll miss out on all the “week of welcome” ice-breaker activities that go on for new freshmen during the week before fall classes start.

yes, you’ll be in London with 30 other kids…but who’s to say that those 30 other kids will be the type that you’ll bond with? They may be in other majors, have other interests…etc.

I don’t like January starts…

I wouldn’t worry too much about the second semester social issue. They do a similar thing at Duke and my parents, both Duke alums, said a few weeks after second semester start, you forget who is who.

For the record, if I had gotten into hamilton for the fall, I would have my deposit in already…
