The last two years they granted second semester only admission to a lot of students. That may not be reflected as “wait listed” in the official numbers as they were guaranteed second semester admission.

Hey! I was on the wait list and I did get in! I got into other schools like Penn State, but they said so many more people applied this year with higher scores. Good luck!

Wait I just read all of it! Congrats!

Not true my D was waitlisted today OOS and unfortunatley there were many students accepted with less credentials which now leads me to ponder that the entire system is faulty and personally I am begining to believe many students not qualifield may be getting into schools to “appease” numbers. My D scored a 1820/2400 on SATs and many EA’s and I have in fact known many are way below that level. So if schools like USC say that their standards are higher may be a stretch in my opinion its all spin and B.S. and now at least I can root for Uof Florida (which my D was admitted) and may I add (in my opinion ) a much better university .So if this sounds like sour grapes IT IS

^Were you looking at in-state or out-of-state numbers?

Out of state admissions is much, much tougher than in-state.

Wow OrangeWhite - at least you call it like it is - Sour Grapes.

One thing to keep in mind is this thread was from last year! I’ve heard that scholarship money and admittance was much more difficult for one reason or another this year. My dd’s stats were significantly higher than the average recepient of the McNair last year and wasn’t invited this year - but the way I look at it - just makes for a stronger academic experience. I hope your D does well at U of F.

OrangeWhite, are you instate for FL - or instate for SC? - or OoS for both?

It sounds like you’re instate for FL. Otherwise, it’s strange that you got into UF but not USC. My son is OoS for both of those with a similar SAT score as your daughter, and he got accepted into USC - with an OoS scholarship, but did not get accepted to UF. He got into FSU but not UF. Since then, I learned of others with stats similar to his but are instate who got accepted to UF. It is much harder for OoS than it is for Instate too as AUGirl stated.

My daughter received her wait listed letter today. We are currently oos but are planning on moving to South Carolina in the Fall. My husband has been working in sc for two years. My daughters math/verbal 1100 total Sat 1840. GPA 3.8. I thought these were great scores… Does anyone know the percentage of wait listed students this year? Any advice on how to increase her odds of possibly getting in Fall Semester?

Sbelle2, did your daughter apply Early decision or Regular? I’m surprised she would be wait listed if she applied Early but maybe not applying Regular since the majority are accepted via Early decision I believe. Unfortunately, I think it’s hard to get in for the Fall from the wait list if it’s anything like last year as they were FULL - so much so that 1 day after the May 1st deadline they announced that anyone who missed the deadline would now be wait listed or have to wait til Spring semester. But my usual advice, it never hurts to have your daughter call and ask.

If she was a SC resident she would be in. First, move to SC now, explain your husbands work in SC, send in SC drivers license, voters registration, car license plate reg. and ask if she could be considered as a in state student. They may say no but it’s worth a shot and it may bump you up the wait list. Send in new grades and EC’s if they could help.
When schools get to their wait list they want to get the class filled quickly. If USC is her first choice tell them she will say yes if she is selected off the wait list.

^^Only possible if husband actually changed drivers license, car registration etc. You can look at in-state residency form online to see what the criteria are for being considered an in-state student.

When my son was wait listed, he stayed in touch with his regional admissions representative and the admissions office and communicated just how much he wanted to go to USC. He also updated his file when he was admitted to an honor society. Although we don’t know for sure, I do feel that this helped because they knew how motivated he was and how much he really wanted to go to USC.

What were your sons Sats?

Is your gpa on the 4.0 or 5.0 scale? Just curious.

Sorry, I haven’t been on here in a long time. Please realize that I started this thread 3 years ago and what was relevant then likely isn’t now. I think my son’s GPA was 3.5 on a 4.0 scale/4.2 on a 5.0 scale with average for the time SAT scores.
