Did anyone get accepted for the Spring semester BUT waitlisted for the Fall? Is this a common practice? If I accept are my chances good of coming off the waitlist?

That didn’t happen to my son, but we were expecting it to as he had a friend who was waitlisted last year who had almost identical SAT and GPA. I also know someone else who was waitlisted this year so I think it must be common. She has desided to go to a branch campus (USC-Upstate).

That happened to me today! They said that you hear back from them in late May to find out if you got in for Fall, but isn’t that too late because you have to let other colleges know by May 1st?

Deposits at other school can still be made and then withdraw the decision asap if you got off the waitlist.

Or you can accept USC and plan to spend fall semester at tech/community school getting some courses out of the way. I know that tech school students in columbia that are transferring to USC can actually participate in USC clubs, etc. don’t know details but worth checking out if you are local.

^I was going to suggest the community college route.

Save yourself a few (thousand) bucks and go to a community college in the fall and then transfer to USC in the spring.

I think I remember reading that Columbia community college students could participate in the USC music programs (like marching band), so I’m sure they could do other things.

Yes, my son has a friend who was waitlisted last year, he ended up going to a branch campus the first semester and transfered to Columbia second semester. He was also told that as a branch campus student he could participate in the USC marching band, but he decided that he didn’t want to drive to Columbia 3-4 days a week. Anyhow, going to a community college or tech college or even a branch USC college for a semester or even a couple of years and living at home can save a small fortune and you get about the same education.

I graduated from a branch campus and my diploma says the exact same thing that it would have said if I went to Columbia, and other than missing out on the “big college” experiance I think that my edukatun at the branch campus was just as good.

What are the chances that my son, who is out of state in VA, will get in for fall 2011 instead of Jan 2012 at USC Columbia? He was waitlisted for fall but guaranteed admission for Spring 2012. Are there stats of chances of getting admitted, and when do they notify you??

Same news here. Relieved that it wasn’t a flat out denial though. I don’t think the chances to get off of the waitlist are very good. Called the Admissions Office and they said that they really encourage to students to NOT count on getting off of the waitlist.

What other campuses would you consider?

Are you going to send the form back in? It has to be returned no later than May 1st.

Is it an option to go to another school where you were admitted for one semester and accept the spring admission?

I received the same letter Thursday evening. They guarenteed me acceptance in January, but waitlisted for fall admittance. Pretty excited for atleast a January acceptance; It was my 1st choice, and thought my chances would be much less considering I’m an out-of-state applicant from MA! But hoping to get off the wait list… usc2015 are you positive there is no chance for admittance if waitlisted?

Hi Bsparks524. No, I am not positive. They just encouraged strongly to be prepared for January rather than the fall. Do you know what you do?

Hey i was waited listed for fall and got in for spring to. I’m just freaked out that i’m not gonna be able to meet any friends because everyone will have made friends and cliques by the time i get there

Has anyone heard anything about their wait list?

My daughter is seriously considering attending USC in the Spring semester—was waitlisted for fall but it didn’t workout. Will it be difficult for her entering as a Freshman in January? are there a lot of kids who do this?

Well no one got off of the waitlist this year, so I’d imagine that there are a lot going in the spring.

Several people have posted on here about being waitlisted and planning on attending in the spring.

Your daughter could check out who else is planning on entering in the spring in the USC Class of 2015 facebook group. =)

I also think that most of the branches are still accepting applications, so if your daughter doesn’t want to fall behind and be ensured transferable credit, that’s definitely an option.
