I think the lesson for me was that what I loved about Brown (laid back, open minded students, size, diversity) was also at other schools like Dartmouth and Amherst. I wish I knew that in high school

Bethyy, I'm in the same boat for a different school. :) When I went on-campus to interview, I arranged it to be before classes started for the year. That is the only circumstance under which I would visit a college during the summer, but I'm glad I made that decision.

hey i live like 5 minutes away from olin and you're right its pretty amazing, its beautiful

Kevin,
My son's a freshman at Olin and he loves it but I feel your pain! He got rejected early on (mid-November) from Deep Springs (have you heard of that tiny school in the desert?) so he had a taste of not getting in somewhere before other apps were even due! Olin is a great place and he's loving it. If he hadn't gotten in, however, Harvey Mudd College was next on his list. Have you looked into this one? He spent an overnight there in the spring of his junior year and really liked the feel of the campus and the student body. He said after the Candidate's Weekend that Olin felt like a small-scale Harvey Mudd.
Good luck with all the applications - I never realized how stressful the whole process is until we lived through the experience last year.
