Hello,
I am preparing to apply to colleges in the fall, and I can’t help but wonder how my application looks from an admission point of view. I have worked at my family business since I was about 12 years old and it is where most of my time over the past years has been spent. Along with this I was accepted into a program at my school where I can take classes at a nearby college during my senior year. (250 students in my school, only 30 were eligible for the program, only 10 were accepted. My concern with my application is that I have very little volunteer work, and very few extracurricular activities. Do you think that dedication to my family’s business outweighs my lack of activities, or should I be more concerned about my chances because of the lack of activities
Your work at the family business would take the place of ECs. Colleges want to see that applicants use their time outside of the classroom in valuable pursuits and working at a family business certainly would qualify. You should be fine.
