Im recently facing a family crisis. My mom has ovarian cancer and I really need to be near her. She has surgery Monday. I'm a transfer student first year at ucsb with 25 units then I took 43 units at a ccc. I want to transfer closer to home, my dilemma is that I recently got readmitted to ucsb for spring quarter which started a week ago. I wrote this in in my apps before the cut off date in January. I got into UCR whic is still an hour away. I'm hoping for UCI I have a 3.7 gpa. It's only 20 min from my house. Is there any way this situation would affect my acceptance? If I dont get UCI and appeal would this be a circumstance to do so? My mom needs my help and I'm so scared I need to be close to her during this rough time. Can anyone advise me what to do?? Please

it will not effect your decisions. Trust me, there are plenty of students who are involved with time consuming activities that get accepted.

My advice: when it comes to your UC admissions, dont worry. You have over 60 units with a competitive GPA of 3.7.

If anything happens, stick with your mother. Being by her side is more important than any college acceptance.

Gluck! :)

I extend my sincere sympathy to you

and I second this. Even postponing college for several months (or years) pales enormously in comparison to the health of your mother and the mandated support for her.

If you do end up needing to appeal, this would definitely be acceptable and compelling new information. They just might ask for proof, i.e. medical documentation, because the people in UC administrations for the most part operate and make enforcements without bearing any hearts.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate the advice and if I do have to appeal I would provide medical records. She is getting treatment at the UCI medical center . I think I’m still in shock so I’m calm right now, but I want to be with her during this time.

My condolences. I’ll pray for you and your mom tonight. God bless.
