Hello!
When Applying to top colleges that say Alumni Relation is important, does a connection to former Admin (such as president ,vice president, or secretary of the college ) tend to resonate well towards a student’s application? For example, if a person had a family member who was formerly the vice president of the college, will that affect the way they look at that student’s application? If so, would it be a positive outlook or a negative one?
I am currently looking at the University of Virginia, and it has been mentioned to me that a family member was up in the ranks at the school during her life. I am researching to see how accurate this is, and I was just curious to how it would affect my application to the school.
It sounds like you don’t really know this relative, in which case it will likely not help at all. If the relative can put in a supportive word for you, your app is likely to get a good look, but if you are just dropping a name it won’t mean much
It really depends, on the school and the relative. If you just write their name on the application (unless it’s someone who was very high up (has buildings named after them) but has passed away, in that case you should try to provide some form of proof of relation) you probably wouldn’t get much of a boost. But if you have them send in a recommendation (if they’re living) that could play in your favor.
