Family Relation and Acceptance

There's a few colleges that aren't on my list, but I'm thinking about applying on the basis that family members have attended. I know my credentials won't apply to my family members that are alumni of Clemson, Harvard, Cambridge, UCLA, etc. but it's worth a shot.

How much does relation to an alumni help in one's acceptance to a college?

Depends on the family relationship and the school. Where your parents went matters to most of the schools on your list, but not to UCLA, for example.

Parents matter quite a bit and even to some of the best schools. Anything farther away doesn’t really matter.

Doesnt it hurt if your parent is an alumni at Cambridge?
