I have the opportunity to become the board member and event coordinator of a non profit organization that raises thousands of dollars a year for cancer research. The one problem is that one of the other board members is a relative :/ will this look good or bad on an application (or do I have to say this)? I know that being part of the non profit is good but I don't want it to seem like I need my parents for everything. I already work at a medical supplies store co-owned by my parents.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

It won’t be BAD obviously. Just do it, and don’t worry about college. It will be good, how good, I don’t know, but you should do it to help, not to get into college.

Oh I definitely am still going to do it. I have been volunteering with this program since I was 10, but the option just became available to me and I am definitely going to do it. I am not going to base my decision on colleges but I figured i would ask how it looked.

Plus I have other outside of high school stuff that can balance that out I think. I really just wanted to know: Do I have to say that a relative of mine is on the board? (and) Will this be looked down upon?

I don’t think you have to say so, but I’m not an authority on this.

Alright well thank you for commenting! If anybody else knows that would be great :)
