FAQ for USC Admissions

1) I can’t help you there - hopefully someone doing the current application can tell you.

2) You are exactly right! If, however, any of your ECs or essays are music-related, you might want to list your Chorus class to help pull your application together with an overall theme. If it was just a random elective it would be fine to leave it out.

I think this is right, but for priority scholarship decisions, does just the application have to be in by Dec. 1? And then the additional forms can come after that date, right? Thanks.

Oh, and can I fax the transcript and the recommendation or do they have to be mailed?

Hey, is there a difference in size of the package when you get accepted or rejected? Like, if you compared a package that contained an acceptance letter from USC, and one that contained a rejection letter, would the package that has the acceptance be bigger? Is there any difference at all?

studentna, you can FAX an unofficial transcript and they will use that in considering your application and verify with the official transcript later. In a pinch, the recommendation can also be FAXed, but it would have to be from your high school’s FAX machine. A sealed copy of the rec should still be mailed.

The application and all supplemental materials are due Dec. 1st. You are not guaranteed priority scholarship consideration if you do not meet the deadline. In calls to admissions, they have said if items are a few DAYS late (not weeks, DAYS), it should be okay. (I feel like I have said this before…)

alamemom,
I am sure you are appreciated each time you say it. I know I appreciated it very much when you said it to me :)

haha! Thanks, BusyMei! I keep reminding myself how worried MY daughter was when she applied. I should probably keep a cut-and-paste version of all this handy for the next three days!

Are all parts of the USC application mandatory? I just filled out the UC application and family background/income are not mandatory. It is unclear on the USC application section if this is optional. Could filling it out hurt if I come from a privileged background or could not filling it out potentially be worse?

It will not matter in terms of admission. It probably also is not mandatory - my guess is it is collected for statistical purposes. If it worries you, it won’t hurt to leave it blank. If when you try to submit you get a message saying you have to fill it out, fill it out.

thank you so much!

Just to clarify, as i haven’t the time to read all 19 pages of this thread, Form 5 (self reporting SAT scores) isn’t required, but is helpful for speeding up USC’s process.

and as long as all supplemental credentials are received within a few days of the deadline, you’re qualified for priority scholarship?

thanks

post deleted

Well… as I am one of the people who took the time to type many of the 19 pages… I suggest you read at least the first three pages and the last three pages and see if you can’t glean an answer to your question.

When it asks you to report your grades…the application says “list only college prep classes”. So I was wondering if I should list classes like PE and Health/Geography…because it seems weird to put “none” in that category.

No need to list P.E. or health, but DO list Geography - it is a college prep class.

Thanks- so it won’t be a problem if they see my transcript and it has classes that I didn’t report?

I have a question!! does USC need to have our SAT scores by Dec.
1st or just sent out by Dec. 1st?

Also, I am planning to take the ACT in December; when I tried to enter Dec 2009 in the Scores section, they would not let me. How would USC know that I am still going to take the ACT? Thank you very much :]

flloyd, if you leave P.E. off you will be following their directions, and they will be pleased to see that. Don’t leave any academic classes off - even if you don’t like the grade.

einnob, for your first question, please read the last three or four pages of THIS THREAD. Or look at one of the several recent threads where I have answered that exact question. There are even links. And quotes.

For your second question, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/818362-sat-question-asked-millon-times-but-stil-needs-answersd-2.html</a> It applies to the ACT as well.

good luck

so i have submitted…but one last question.

was there a part of the application where we chose Dec. 1st as our deadline? or are we automatically considered for scholarships if we get it in by then? because i was reviewing my app. and i don’t see anything like that. kinda worried…
