FAQ for USC Admissions

Is USC still a good choice if you’re not really into football and all? Are the people as mean and stuck up as everyone says they are? Also, how bad is South Central L.A.? How do you get into downtown… I don’t have a car and I probably won’t get one? Is the grading curve at Marshall harsh? Also, what is this “Explore USC” day? Do you think I have a good chance of getting in with a 2000 on the SAT and straight A’s (8 AP’s… but also failed Chem and U.S. History exams)!!! Please help because USC is my first choice, but I have many concerns.

There are some people on campus who aren’t interested in football. They’re pretty much all freshmen. Once you get here and experience it you will like it. The safety around campus is very good, we have lots of public safety officers and private security employees keeping eyes out for trouble. Getting into downtown: you can take a bus, then get to a metro station and go lots of places from there.Explore USC is a chance to come to campus, see what it’s like, ask questions, and experience a bit of what student life is all about.

How much does the interview influence the admission decision?

It just helps I think to see what you are like. But if you don’t do one i’m sure it’s fine

I didn’t send the Unofficial Freshmen SAT/ACT Score Report or the Transcript Request Form for High School Records. I did send my Official ACT Score Reports and my Official Transcript though… I wasn’t able to download the personalized unofficial forms under the Forms to Download because they were never available for me, but it says USC has all my documents in the Admissions Documents page. Does anyone know if not sending the unofficial ones will affect my application??? I am panicing so much… Thanks in advance.

^loveydovey, I would guess that you’re okay because 1. the documents page says you’re okay. 2. USC would’ve asked you to send in the unofficial score report.
However, it was required, so you might want to contact USC.

Yeah, I was looking over my application yesterday and I noticed that I put the scores in unofficially from the 2 times I took the SAT (and suuucked) and the ACT one was blank. How I could have done that, I could not tell you, but a 27 and a 30 on the ACT look a WHOLE LOT better to me than a 1700 and an 1820. I however, only sent official records of the ACT scores and did not send official SATs. Are they going to hurt me for submitting the (unofficial) bad SATs?

I don’t think so, oxolojo. USC only takes into account the highest score you have, so if you sent SAT and ACT scores, and your ACT score is higher, they’ll only consider your ACT score. That’s what they’re MEANT to do, anyways. We don’t really know how they’ll truly react when they see you scored a 1700 on the SAT before, despite the fact your 30 ACT score is a lot better. It certainly wouldn’t be fair of them to take your lower score into consideration! But since ultimately they want OFFICIAL scores, I doubt they’ll pay your SAT score any mind. I don’t believe you should worry about it oxolojo.

Hi,
I would like to know if someone can help me on finding statistics on graduate admission at USC, in particular at the Viterbi School of Eng. (if possible in astronautical engineering). I could not find any info but the rate 21.9% (which I guess is related to all USC applicants).
Thank you very much!

I’m also trying to figure grad school stats, but mine is the interactive media masters program. what degrees are most prevalent among the students, their gpas, portfolio weight… thanks in advance if you can answer the question no one else can (or wants to, i cant tell which)

Does a sister count as a legacy? She graduated 2 years ago.

Not sue if a sister counts or not but I think it might. Alamemom do you know?

I am not sure. What I DO know is that being a legacy does not seem to be an admissions factor. The benefit of being a Legacy is that if you are rejected you get special transfer advising and planning if you are rejected.

can somebody explain how to send in letters of recommendation?

Yes. Mail them.

Fill out “Part 1 - Student” of this form http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1112/Form4_2011.pdf</a> and give it to your recommender along with a pre-addressed, stamped envelope addressed to:

USC Office of Admission
Undergraduate
University Park Campus
Los Angeles, CA
90089-0911

Is there a specific size for the envelope?

How should we send the transcripts in? the same way throuhg mail? and the cover sheet and such?

No, there is no specific envelope size. Yes, you mail in your transcripts.

Be sure to get an official, sealed transcript from your registrar at your high school and do not open it. You can then put it in another envelope (of whatever size you prefer) along with any other materials you are sending such as sealed recommendations and unofficial test scores (USC requests that you submit a printout of your test scores in addition to the official scores you have ordered).

Write your name and USC ID # on everything you send.

Good luck!

I printed out the forms, should i include the fax cover sheets? or just the forms itself, it alreayd has a barcode on it? and im assuming that includes my USCID? or should i write it in just incase? Uhm when u say sealed recommendations? do u mean that they are already in a seperat envelope? Or can i just mail in my recommendations seperately?
