Your daughter will first get checked in to her room and get her key for the overnight stay. Most of the morning and early afternoon is filled with information sessions about various topics including generally school policies, auxillary services, etc. Then, later in the afternoon there are several “breakout session” that you have the option of attending. These generally include presentations on greek life, undergraduate research, co-op, and other “special topic” oriented subjects. You’ll have the opportunity to eat dinner with your daughter that evening in the student center, and then you will part company for the evening. It is at this point that many parents take the bus tour, which I have heard is quite interesting and worthwhile. Your daughter’s evening will be entirely dedicated to meeting new people and getting accustomed to life at Tech. There is an anonymous question and answer session with the FASET leaders, an open house at the CRC, and various other mixers and games. Day 2 is relatively relaxed compared to day 1. There are a few final information sessions in the morning after breakfast, and then your daughter will go to register for classes and get her buzzcard. Registration time tickets vary, but if she has an early one, you could be done as early as about 3:00pm. While you are waiting for her to register, there is something of a “fair” in the student center ballroom. This will give you an opportunity to interact on a one-on-one basis with representatives from GTPD, auxillary services, the book store, representatives from many of the colleges, and various other offices and agencies on campus.

Thanks for the detailed report! I am sure that we will have a great time learning about TECH.
